why is there no perfect car!! TL vs the G35 for me

i hate this....there are pros and cons to both...and i hate it. i dont even know why...i am prolly not going to but for another 6 months or so, but everynight i get in bed and read my car literature for both the TL and the G35....my wife cant stand it!

anyway, i have testdriven both so much that the dealers are prolly going to start charging me. they think my test drives are just my way to own without purchasing

i actullly prefer the G35 exterior but the TL interior more. the G35 handles amazing and feel like a true sport sedan. the TL kisses my *** it is so nice inside, plus i love the stereo(i still havent heard the G stereo--bose that is, just the stock one)...both Navs have their plusses and minuses...i kinda like the birdseye, but the TL is much easier to use and i like being able to use it while driving...the seats in the G are much better imo (especially the leather)...room is spacious in the back of both sedans, however i feel the TL looks bigger from the outside....i cant decide on a color of either model, im a mess....i feel like this is the biggest disicion of my life (this will actually be my first brand spankin new car)

i do wish however i was debating between the M45 and the RL...those are 2 cars i drool over on a ragular basis

anyway, i love both cars so much....the real aluminum in the G35 is a whooooole lot nicer then before--i dont care however for th yellow/red backlights...love the blue, but after driving them i think the G is more fun to drive! and heck i even think the non sport G is more fun to drive then the TL

dangitkrjrjfeiefd! add%^^%$!!FDDCV!!#@@$#~~!!!!

edit: forgot to add, i also like the better gas milage the TL gets, but when i checked with my insurance company, the G is $55 a month cheaper--have no clue why...anyone?

gosh darn! my first post and i love this freakin car and i love that one too....for all different reasons....why is there no perfect car...

on one hand i have: more fun to drive, better seats, decent NAV, from what i hear a nice stereo and nice leg room; on the other i have decent ecterior, super DVD-A sound system, real nice NAV, but average nice ride

aujshausasbqsbsbqbs!

The M45 is gorgeous :-D
Stereo ... ? I've never heard of someone buying a car for the stereo, lol :-)
Good points you bring up though. And most def -- the 05 interior is leaps and bounds improvement over the 04.

well, not that it is a make or break on a good deal, but a GREAT stereo is one of the many things i want on a car. more and more manufacturers are steppping up to the plate on this. i am in my car a lot...and i looove me some music--not thumpy music but more like DMB, Coldplay, Beck, David Gray, Blues Traveler, Cake, Trey Anastasio, Ray Lamontagne...kinda music...i want chrystal clear music...

id rather buy a cat that has this covered then add in later--but that is just me--man it was fun to drive!

Just want to point out - for me there was $2 difference between insuring these two cars. For what that's worth.

I was in the same shape you were in for a while, I think a lot of us were.

The G won for several reasons for me.

1) - exterior style. The TL is too vanilla. It had no soul. For me, it looked like a big Accord.

2) - the VQ is awesome. Period. TL may post a faster 0-60 but I don't make a living running stoplight to stoplight. I drove my Maxima for 7 years and never had a problem with her - call it brand loyalty. (I wonder about this now that the 05s are on the street - the VQ powertrain in the G pushed the M35 to 60 in 6.3.. We're lighter) Honda makes a great motor too, but I like the VQ...

3) - DVD Audio is great if you have the collection to really take advantage of it. I, on the other hand, have a vast MP3 collection. The Bose in the G was a better solution for me. 1000 songs in the dash ready to go.

4) - IT'S A G. When I see one at the stoplight I know what it is without even thinking. With the TL I have to wonder if what I'm looking at half the time - is it a TSX? Accord with a body kit? What?

5) - It's a G.

My wife just went through the same thing between a TL and G35. She ended up getting the TL, and picked it up last Thursday (Silver with ebony leather and NAV). My opinion is that it's such a sweet car. The interior is leaps and bounds above the G. I love the blue lighting, the soft materials, bluetooth, DVD 5.1 audio, etc. However after driving both, it is clear that the G35 handles much better. As far as power goes, they are pretty close. Id give the edge to the G, but that Vtec engine pulls really hard all the way to redline. Im glad we have both. I prefer the G on the Sunday drives and the TL on morning commutes and roadtrips. The improved Gas mileage was another reason she chose the TL. However, we both think that the paint colors on the TL just plain suck. They are so boring, unlike the G. In the end, they are both great cars. Im glad I picked a G, but If I had gotten a TL 6-speed, Im sure Id be happy as well.

i currently drive a 96 maxima and have loved it....i mean now of course i want somthing new, but other then brakes, wheels, and tires, i have had no maintenance costs...however my cd player did die on me for aboput 1 year now--i do not listen to the raqdio much and was constantly listening to cd's

if i got a G, i beleive i would also get Sirius--that and a 6 disc changer would prolly cut down on the constant wear on a "moveable part"

I can empathize..

The Acura and the Infiniti were the 2 on my short list, as well.

And, I can empathize with you on the decision to pick a color. Hell, I like all the G35 colors. For months I kept changing my mind. It was lakeshore slate, then it was red, then it was black...

I went through a whole evolution of choices it seemed... TL vs. G, Sedan vs. Coupe, lakeshore slate vs. diamond graphite, navi or no navi...

As for the final decision of what car to buy (not withstanding the options), it wasn't even close in my mind. The test drive sealed the deal for me and I ordered a 6MT Diamond Graphite / Stone G35 a couple of weeks back. The Acura's got some cooler gadgets, and I originally preferred its exterior styling better (however I've grown to love the G35's distinctive lines more than the Acura's ordinary ones, IMHO).

In the end I wanted a car that drove like a sports car. You just don't get that same feeling with a Front Wheel Drive sedan. In the end, I even opted for the coupe over the sedan.

Amazingly, no one can really help you make up your mind. You've got to get what you think you'll love the most. Once you make the decision, don't look back no matter what anyone says.

Best of luck in your decision!

The TL while a nice design is suffering from poor quality. There is another TSB out there that could cause the thing to crash... much like the 04 oil jet and locking 5AT crash problem.

Acura has lost it as far as quality goes. There are so many issues with the car after driving it just 25,000 miles. All you should have had to do is oil changes and an air filter at that point.

I went with the G this time around and have had no problems knock on wood compared to the TL..

not doubting you but the TL was rated very hight as far as fewest per 100 vehicles in quality--i just saw that somewhere, like CNN or somthing...the G35 was up there 2...i wanna say both were in the top 10
but i cant remember

I debated the same two cars -- for less than one second. While both are in the same price range and both are excellent cars, I decided I could not deal with FWD. Furthermore, most of the new Acuras look lige "bigger" Accords. The RL is a perfect example...

I ended up with an 05 Gx Prem, Nav -- most happy with it thus far.

I think GeeWillikers sums it up perfectly in his post -- couldn't have said it better myself.

Someone else knocked the G interior compared to the Acura... I would say that the TL is nicer but the G definitely holds it own -- especially the 05s. I definitely do not agree with, "interior is leaps and bounds above the G...".

And I am not a Honda-hater -- before I get flamed... I had a highly modded S2000 before my G...

I like them both.

The main thing you listed about the TL (more than once) was interior. Very important, but the G is not ugly

I would not even think about the stereo. I have never kept a factory stereo. IMO that is not a big issue, if you don't like it, add a custom one. A custom stereo will always sound better than a factory one.

I like them both, but consider the G to be more of a sports car.

If you want a luxury car with some power - get the TL.
If you want a sport car with some luxury - get the G35.

I did a lot of cross shopping b/w the TL and the G...both are excellent cars within their own respects.

it was a tough choice b/t the two. i liked them both for different things, the interior in the TL was gorgeous, well thought out and excellent colour schemes. but the G looks way better from the exterior plus the RWD.

as far as driving the two, the TL did not make my heart race the way the G did. i found the TL to be a better car for my dad then for me...

i love hondas and the V-TEC engines are amazing, but with the recent problems that honda has had with their cars i went with the G coupe

if the TL came with SH-AWD then the decision may have been even more difficult.

if you want to make your decision even harder and lose even more sleep, check out this website that has a done up TL...it looks sick!

www.ronjonwheels.com

go to the 03-05 body kit section and take a look at some of the pics there

That was probably one of the most important detriments to the TL (in my opinion), that half the time you wouldn't be able to tell if it was a TSX, customized Accord, a TL....whatever....either way, G's the way to go.

2 words answer why I am getting a G instead of a TL- "Torque Steer" I don't see how anyone who is enthusiastic about driving can possibly drive the 6 spd TL as the torque steer is such a major distraction to the driving experience. I was all ready to get the TL until I test drove the 6 spd and stepped on the gas as I turned the wheel. Goodbye TL-hello G35. PS if you are getting the automatic TL the torque steer is livable. Last yr Car and Driver explained why the 6 spd suffers much more than the auto with torque steer.

This past weekend, I brought my wife's CL-S in for service. I browsed around the showroom and spent some time inside a TL. Quite frankly, I don't see what the big deal is about the interior. To me, my G's interior looks and feels way more classier and sporty at the same time. I did not bother cross shopping the TL because it was FWD.
