yet another new owner; and questions about the bose

Just picked up my sedan last Tuesday. It's an 04 5AT, with dealer-installed diffusers and spoiler ( don't know the actual "kit" name ); only had 20 miles on it. They've had it on the floor for almost a year, so I got a lot of movement on the sticker.

I traded in an 02 Avalanche Z66. What a change. Prior to the beast, I had a 2000 Chrysler 300M. While the g35 obviously has more torque/low-range power, they handle comparably.

I'm trying to drive *everywhere* I can to get past the 1200 mile break-in. I'm dying to stand on the accelerator; I've only gotten it to around 3500 rpms so far.

I absolutely love the car, except for the stereo. I opted for the premium package mainly because that's what was on the car, and I wanted the auto-off headlights ( haven't had to turn off my headlights in 7 years ) and the fullsize spare. The first thing I noticed when I put in a cd was the utter flatness of the stereo. It's actually bad enough that yesterday the wife was listening to one of her new cd's, and she said that it sounded worse than the FM-broadcast version of the song sounds in her Pacifica.

Anyway, I'm thinking about replaced everything but the HU and the sub, but I can't seem to find any information about the sub. Is it a powered sub, or is it getting it's juice from the bose amp? If the latter, what's the sub's impedance?

thanks
trey

You have got to be kidding! I've driven a 300M and there is NO comparison!

No highs, no lows? It must be BOSE!

Try searching the audio/video forum.

I had my 300 for over two years, and even had an opportunity to get it on a track, so I know what it was capable of doing. Having said that, I have *not* gotten my g on the track. However, I'm confident that the 300 could keep up with my g through the twisties, if you drove it like an S2000 ( i.e., kept the revs up ). It didn't have much low-range punch, but anything over about 4000 rpms and it screamed.

After I get my g through the break-in period, I may have a different opinion.

As for searching the forums, I have searched all kinds of combinations. Unfortunately, I haven't found a single post that states definitively if the subwoofer is self-powered or not.

I certainly hope so.

why in the world would you track a 300M? the only way you'd win is if the other cars move aside as they see the horrible "cab forward" styling... and there is no way in HELL a '00 300M handles as good as the G35....congrats on the new ride....my 97 dropped A4 handled better than the G but NOT a 300M

Perhaps he just wanted to have some fun and/or work on becoming a better driver.

I was offered a chance to drive my 300 on a track. That occasion included various runs, including a two different skidpads, slalom, two laps, etc. None of these things were timed; nor were they against any competition. So I didn't "race" anybody.

The 300 was my first car with any performance whatsoever. I was emotionally attached to it, and really didn't want to get rid of it for the Avalanche. Maybe I'm just being a 300 homer and remembering it to be more of a perf car than it really was. Either way, it was a blast to drive, FWD/Automatic or not.

As for becoming a better driver, if I had the extra cash, I'd love to drop some on a driving school.

Blind loyalty aside, I think you will find that the G performs quite a bit better than the 300M.

BTW, I tried to find an answer to your sub question, but I didn't find anything definitive. I am fairly confident that the sub gets it's power from the amp. As far as impedence, dunno.
