Which Y pipe are you running (I really like the stock 05 exhaust look (rear section)), but would love to do a coupe mid-pipe with an aftermarket Y-pipe that's reasonably priced.

So is it worthless to upgrade your midpipe and not change your Y Pipe?

More on different mods

I would like to hear from folks who have the mid pipe replaced and also have, say the stillen catback E on or some other exhaust like the borla or fujitsubo, etc. I just want opinions as to the sound level. The stillen catback from what i gather is rather loud just by itself, adding CAI, mid pipe, etc could add to that and I just would like to hear from folks with a similar setup like that.
Likes and dislikes, etc. Thanks for the input.

I have heard a sedan in AZ with a stillen y-pipe and hks rear section, and it sounded horrible (in my opinion)...very raspy...

See my post above^^^

FWIW....
I'm likely one of the few that had a Borla b4 the current
midi+HKS.

Total volume is not much different.
The midi+HKS is a little deeper & sexy smooth.

I really liked my Borla & wouldn't have changed except
for the drone at 2K rpm.
I have the 5AT which is always arround 2K rpm if in auto mode.
For a 6M the drone would not be as much of an issue.

i got the gruppes y pipe..I believe they are the cheapest..I'm not for paying anything above 300 for a y pipe..along with the 350z mid pipe..

I like the rumble you get wen u start your engine..

time to hear the engine..cya

If your primary concern is sound, then go ahead and do the midpipe alone. There is a huge difference just from removing that huge resonator on the sedan midpipe - Compare

As for performance gains, in theory removing that extra weight will help and removing the restriction from the resonator as well. However, some have claimed the serious bottleneck is in the bends/kinks of the Y - pipe. Now Stillen will claim a good power boost on their catback without the Y-pipe, but that's marketing....

Summary, if you want sound change then swap out the midpipe. If you want power, then your work has just started!

my HKS is ALOT louder then the Borla another owner had, we compared it right on the spot the last meet.

First sorry for the rookie questions, on my 2003 sedan I want an exhaust that will be a little deeper and throw in a few HP for fun. I don't want to sound like all those half civic half lawnmowers that run all over L.A. Is HKS exhaust and a midpipe right for me. I also want to add an airfliter/intake and maybe a chip (technosquare?) any advice on parts and places to go to install in L.A. area?

ok guys....reading all your postings excite me for a moment then...BANG!!!...I'm shaking my head in confusion again!!

I need help in choosing between the BORLA CATBACK or the MIDPIPE+HKS. Those of you that have gone through this already...what do you think?

I am looking for better sound...hopefully just as good as the Coupe Stock or a little deeper. Can't handle the droning or buzzing in the cabin.

So is it the BORLA or midpipe+HKS? Any sound pics?

Thanks.

I think the midpipe + HKS sounds nicest of all.

dosen't fit the x. no exhaust is currently made for the x. if u want one your going to have to go to a good shop that could cut up an exhaust for the sedan (eg. stillen) and make it fit around the transfer case on the x model. i dont think one will be made either becasue there isn't a large enough demand.

same is true with the ts ecu reflash. nothing for us x drivers.
