Replacement Battery

Any suggestions for a good replacement battery for my sedan? I don't drive the g a whole hell of a lot these days and it sits for long periods of time. I also have a stereo with a 1300 watt amp and a 400 watt amp which haven't helped much in the demised of my o.e. battery.

Thanks!

I figure you can never go wrong with Interstate (Mega-Tron), the green top batteries.

They are a little bit pricier than the Diehards (like maybe 5$ depending on the model) but I have much better luck with them on previous autos that I have had, and especially the ones with an upgraded aftermarket soundsystem.

I would look into an Optima replacement. However, I'm unsure of the fit. I'm sure someone has tried it though.

If you buy a nissan badged battery from a nissan/infiniti parts department it is an interstate battery. The battery from the factory is an in house nissan product.

I can vouch for the Optima "yellow top" battery. I run one in my company Exploder. I have two 150 watt driving lamps (12 amps each), two 50 watt fog lamps (5 amps each), two 110 watt back up/work lamps (6 amps each), I upped the regular low beams to 65 watt and the high beams to 80 watt. I have a Escort 8500, telephone, map lights, aftermarket stereo and sub woofer, and the usual compliment of electric windows, locks, Air Conditioning, etc. I also run a ton of Ham Radio gear, two rigs, motorized antenna, etc. I leave the ham gear on over the weekend some times and it would drain the huge Motorcraft battery dead. The Optima yellow top doesn't even flinch.

The yellow tops are a combination of a "starting" and "deep cycle" battery. They have HUGE reserves.

Frankly, I can't believe yours has lasted this long with 1700 watts of system in it! I would thing that you would need to run two batteries with a high powered system like yours. Alot of Ham operators run to batteries when they run an amplifier with there radios.

Optima Yellow top D34/78 is what I have. For sure it will last much longer than the OE battery. Check your local stereo shops or go to Sears I know for sure they'll have it. Goodluck!

Weight?

If I recall correctly aren't the Optima Yellow Tops not suggested as a starting battery? I think the Red Tops are OK but the Yellow where not. I could be mistaken, but I think I talked to someone who sold both types and they mentioned it really depends on how you use it.

Also just a side note, if I recall correctly (it's been at least a couple of years since I had a yellow top in my Exploder) the Optima's are significantly heavier than a regular automotive battery so I don't know how that would affect the weight balance of the G.
