chipped paint on door. no idea how this happened..

I was washing my car today and noticed these chips near the rear passenger door sill. This makes me mad. A 35k car should not be doing this and I am going to dealership to get this documented as I am leasing the car. I did NOTHING to cause these chips and rust.. A 35k car should not be chipping and rusting this badly, considering its a 2004 bought in Sept of 2004.

has anyone else seen this...

Rust like that doesn't happen overnight... You just noticed it? How often do you wash your ride?

My first suggestion would be to stop taking it to an automatic car wash. I would never take my car through one of those.

I have this exact problem but on one side only (22K miles). The rear door on the "problem" side is slightly underflush relative to the quarter panel...exposing the area in question to stone damage. Adjust your rear door striker outward slightly and that should prevent further damage.

That does look like stone damage, but never seen rust so quickly, do you drive on a dirt or loose gravel raod at all? My '04 is a year and half old, 16k, I have no chips in that location, knock on wood!
