extended warranty

do you guys think getting the extended warranty is a good idea?? the guy offered me a 7 yr/100,000 mile warranty for $2300. since the original warranty is 4 yr/60,000 miles, the $2300 is essentially for an additional 3 yr/40,000, if that makes sense. i said no, but i still have the option of taking it

Re: extended warranty

In my opinion, extended warranties are a waste of $$$$.

Re: extended warranty

Is that US dollars? I was offered the same extra warranty for 1500 CAD. I wonder why there's such a big difference.

Re: extended warranty

And given that Nissan/Infiniti has stellar reliability ratings I wouldn’t spend $2,300 on an extended warranty on this car.

Re: extended warranty

A friend of mine paid $1800 for a 100k mile warranty on his Honda Civic. Never used it. At 160k he sold the car.

It's up to you. Why not put the $2300 in the bank? It'll pay for any work that would possibly need to be done in between 60k and 100k. And if you don't use it, bonus for you.

Re: extended warranty

If your car is on lease and you plan to buy out the lease, companies sometimes gives you the option of purchasing an extended warranty. It would be a good idea if you think about it. The A/C if breaks down is an arm and a leg already. Warranties exceeding $2000 may not be worth it though, that's a lil high priced.

It's still a G thang!!

Re: extended warranty

I got it for $2K from the dealer and I've heard of someone who got it for $1550. Just tell them you can get it from your credit union for $1500, but would rather have it from them. You should be able to get it for under $2k.

The other question is if it is worth it? The one car I didn't get a extended warranty on had it's transmission fail right after the original warranty ended. $3K later, I promised myself that I would always get one, if I was going to keep the car a while. I just consider it part of the car price that is negotiable.

Re: extended warranty

Over $2K sounds pretty outrageous for a 10yr/100K extended warranty. You should be able to get it to about $900 with just a little bit of bargaining. When I was negotiating my Acura TL-S, they started out at $1400 for it, but I talked the guy down to $895 without too much haggling. I still didn't purchase it because there was some ambiguous language in the contract. I doubt a G35 extended warranty would be much of a price difference than my TL-S, so I'd say that you're really getting ripped off at >$2K.

Re: extended warranty

I got mine for $1350, thought it's a good idea since I got mine with all the options (DVD, heated seat). I don't have doubt about Infiniti engine reliability, however I have doublt about the electronics parts of the car.

Re: extended warranty

Agree, over 2K is pretty steep.

Also, take home a copy of the service agreement of the warranty and read it carefully. Write down any questions and go back to the dealership. Normally things like "accessories" are not covered. These "accessories" are usually things like sunroof, stereos, dvd, nav displays.

Don't let them "tell" you these things are covered, get it in writing that each specific item is covered. A blanket statement such as "electronic devices" might disqualify those high value items that you might think would be covered.

I've never used an extended warranty. I bought them for my last two new cars and the cars outlasted the extended warranty.

I'm not planning to get it for this one.

Re: extended warranty

Never get extended warranties on major purchases. The car companies make such good products these days you should get 100K miles without any trouble. My 1999 Prism has 80K and I have done nothing but change the oil, tune it, and get a set of new tires. Granted my G is a first year car, but the engine & tranny are proven.

Re: extended warranty

I talked to someone at infiniti and this is what they told me,there is an after Market Extended Service Plan for $1,350.00 for 7yrs/100,000 miles with a variable deductible, unfortunately this does not cover the Stereo and the Navigation. The Infiniti Elite Extended Service Plan is 7yrs/100,000 miles with a $50.00 deductible for $1,900.00.

Re: extended warranty

You didn't say, but does the Infiniti Elite plan cover the stereo and Nav?
