After seeing the hangdog expression on the owner's face, I didn't have the heart to snap any pics when I stopped by to see if he was OK.

I would also echo dklau33 about the car/driver equation. It seems there were more tools behind the wheel of the Corvettes than in the pits. There was a Mini Cooper S running wee little Avons in a more experienced group who could have walked us BOTH!

Curious about MM do you feel it improved your times?
I would think the best thing in MM is holding onto a gear through a corner,
rather than Auto uoshifting too soon on you??
inTgr8r- I was impressed with the tranny's LACK of shifting in the corners.....I feel that there is feedback from the yaw sensor to prevent/delay shifting. For example, in the Carousel I had to really lift throttle early to provoke an upshift. Otherwise, it would hold gear nicely.

The greatest benefit for me using MM was more of a brake conservation strategy on later runs. It also smoothed out the power delivery exiting turns.

Here are some maps of the track for those interested:http://www.roadamerica.com/2005/track_maps.htm

Ok killer I didn't post that up to take anything away from Chicago's driving abilities nor the abilities of the X. I merely pointed that to correct the statement of SixFive in the previous post. Read the thread again and you'll see I was giving Chicago props.

Awesome write up Chicago. You're pretty ballsy to go out on a fast course like that where opportunities to hit walls are abundant and all on your first event! Great job though on the driving. Those R-Compounds sure make one hell of a difference, even if you are still on stock suspension. Did you turn off your VDC? What pads, fluid were you using? Got videos?

With Road America time approaching again, I am reviving this post. Just talked to ChicagoX on the phone and we're both stoked to go on this fun, fun, fun track.

The above is a picture of me in the Beastie Coupe exiting Turn Six and heading over to the no-brakes Turn Seven. I simply cannot wait to get back on this course with race rubber - my tuner says my accelerometer might read out a 1.3 G's or higher on The Carousel. My top reading was 1.17 last year (with ChicagoX riding along) and that was with Kuhmo Ecsta MX's - not the Yoko A032R soft compounds I'll be using time!

Right now we should have at least five G's running - three coupes (me, Derek173, 6MT4Me), 1 6MT sedan (myG35ZX) and one X - from you-know-who.

With the leaves changing colors at this time, not only will the track be thrilling, it will be beautiful. Bring your cameras!!!

There's still plenty of slots left guys. Check out the registration here:

That is a great track. Ever run at Blackhawk or Gingerman, or IRP?

Black Hawk Farms - yes.

Gingerman - yes.

IRP - nope, never raced that track. Do they have HPDE's there?

I like Gingerman and the North Course at the Autobahn best of the tracks besides Road America. But for me, RA is by far the favorite of all of them.

I used to put around in a formula V and formula ford on those tracks a few short years ago. Man do I miss it.
IRP is great, not sure what they do there any longer, but I know that SCCA still does events there.

RA is freaking fast and awesome.
