Hmm I would think if the transponder is in the car then the key should start the car because it would be similar to no key at all, which is how it would normally start. Could very well be a secndary measure for thieves though.

Well, I thought it might work. In researching alarms with remote start, it turns out to use the remote start you need to have one of your transponder keys permanently mounted in the dash in a special (?) box. This somehow lets the car start remotely. I thought if it is in the box in the dash, then just holding a transponder key near the ignition and using the wallet key might work-but it didn't. I might try it again.

I wanted to do this, because if it worked I might be able to make a non-transponder copy of the valet key so if needed, a valet could start my car, but could not get into my glove box or trunk. Otherwise, I'd have to buy a new valet key for $100-$150.

Anyone with any ideas?

For the original poster (whoever you were): I've attached some pictures of the key and the ignition. I hope this clarifies things.
