Nav or no Nav??

So I am about to order a new Twilight Blue/Wheat 05 6mt sedan with premium, splash and aero.

What do you think?? Do I go for the Nav or save the money. Is it really just about the cool factor? Do those of you who have it use it?

Would love some opinions...Thanks

Well, I have decided no on the Nav.

1. I wouldn't use it more than once a month besides just to watch where I am. Others use it all day all the time. So that is totally dependant on what you do.

2. It takes up tons of valuable storage space. You lose both the console storage and the upper glove box. Not worth it to ME but yes for others.

3. At least on the 03/04 models you lose the in-dash 6 disc changer and go to a single disk cd with a changer option in the trunk (I think - but not sure). Loss of in-dash 6 disc was way more than I was willing to give for Nav.

Just asking, but why give up the "Best ****** car I ever owned" for one just one year newer? Is it that much nicer? Are you putting tons of miles on the 04? Wanna sell it cheap?

Sorry Homeslice you can have your cake and eat it too. my Nav equipped 03.5 also has the 6 disc CD changer.

I don't think I would buy a car without a nav. Sure it's expensive and the money saved could be used to buy Mods but it is handy as hell. No more arguements with the wifey. Miss an exit, no problem it will recalculate your route. I know my way around town but I don't know exactly where 214 Chestnut street is. The Nav will lead you there. They are super handy have when traveling as you can find anything with them. When the gas gets low, it can direct to the nearest gas station.

There are nicer systems out there but I like the integration of the factory Nav when it turns down the radio to give instructions.

In the end, it translates to and extr $32 on your monthly payment.

I have an 04.5 with Nav, and I also have the in-dash 6 CD changer. I love my nav even though I travel maybe 10 miles a day. I use it to view shortcuts if there is a lot of traffic (birdseye view), and to monitor my gas mileage (how much to press the gas pedal). I personally hate the voice that tells me where to go it is way too loud, and when the big arrow to turn shows up on the nav I always have to do last (or back, or whatever that button is) to see the map again. I think it has way too many cool features on it to not get it.

I stand corrected. Usually, it is my wife that does that to me

I guess I got some bad info from my sales rep. Huh, that never happened before (more sarcasm)...

Have it also. But I used it once since 02/15. So for the cool factory integration aspect I dont think it can be beat. But for every reason to get it. I'm sure there is just as many not to get it. For me I would get it again. I only wish it was touchscreen and placed lower in the dash where hvac controls are.

If you can afford the extra coin, get it. You'll be glad you did.

I have it... and only use when I don't know where I'm going!! HAHAHA! So, it comes in handy quite often.

I don't think the space above the glove box is valuable, as I try and keep the car empty anyway.

If you don't get the factory nav, then i would recommend and aftermarket Double DIN toouchscreen nav unit / stereo!

Cheers, Ted

I've not run into anyone who got it and said "Damn, I wish I hadn't", but I've run into more than a few who've regretting not getting it.

I use it frequently, and not just to find areas I'm not farmiliar with. The birds-eye view is very handy for finding ways around traffic that you otherwise would never have known about.

I have a nice handheld that I move from vehicle to vehicle. It does everything I need, has a color display and mounts nicely when I want to use it.

When I don't it's stowed.

No problems.

Factory NAV didn't seem worth it to me - I'd been using this other one prior to the purchase so I knew what I was giving up.

Definitely nice to have for the cool factor.

Actually, I might be one of those who say "Damn, I wish I hadn't". I havent actually said that, but I am disappointed in the Nav. It is definately cool, but definately not that great of a Nav system. The Nav in my Dodge Magnum RT is so much better (quite suprising), and thats a freaking Dodge (although the Nav is made by Alpine). Its also not even close to my former Lexus. And I wont even begin to compare it to the Nav in my wife's 05 Acura TL. The Nav can be quite useful however, it just lacking in certain features, points of interest, and display capabilities that I am used to. Right now Im not so sure it was worth it. But the next time Im late for a meeting and totally lost, Im sure my mind will change....

I got it because I love toys. I didn't use it at first, but once I discovered the "Where am I" button, the fuel economy guage and finally figured out that you can type in the name of locations like restaurants, stores, etc..., I started using it a lot more.

I recommend.

I did not get it and so far I don't regret it. I didn't think I needed it and didn't want to spend $2000 and lose storage space. I thought there might be advances in the technology that an aftermarket one might address when I was ready for one.

I use maps when needed and have a good sense of direction (usually). I haven't used a NAV, so I am not sure how easy and fast it is to do things with it. For instance, two days ago (Saturday) on the Garden State Parkway traffic became stop-and-go. I heard on the news that it was closed 2 miles ahead (accident I believe), so I got off at the exit we were up to and gave my wife the map and we figured out what to do without stopping. This might not have worked in an area I didn't know at all, but I do carry maps for places I go.

My brother uses a portable GPS device that he likes and uses a lot.

But I am sure it is a neat thing to use and have. Your call----
