I have put 2225 miles on my 05 G 6mt. I am planning to changing my oil..... any ideas on which oil to use.... any specific brand..... Could I have it changed at PepBoys, autozone.... or similar....

Are you asking me to go synthetic with 2k+ miles on my car...

 

If I were you (and of course I'm not or I'd be talking to myself right now) I'd pick the brand that I'm most comfortable with that met the MFR specifications.

 

I called up the dealership and found that they use mobil 5w30 non synthetic. I check with another dealership and they seem to be using mobil1, which I presume is synthetic.
Is oil dealer's preference and is it not a standard across all infiniti dealerships?

 

I thought Infiniti used oil made by Nissan?...is there such a thing?

 

Use MOBIL1 full synthetic (5W-30)

 

Mobil one has a relationship with Infiniti and many dealers are offering their products, although not exclusively. AT 2k miles you're about at the range to switch to synthetic now that your engine major break in period is over. I recommend the mobil one 5w30 synthetic.

 

I don't believe there are any auto manufacturers that have their own refineries. Although there are lots of manufacturers that carry their own brand of oils, lubricants manufactured for them by others.

I asked because I've owned Ford trucks and Ford uses Motorcraft oil. I thought every manufacturer used their own oil.

 

That's funny...mentioning Motul 8100 in a thread that also contains Pep Boy and Auto Zone. You can change over to synthetic anytime you want. As mentioned a million times before, new Vipers and Corvettes come with Mobil1 already installed. have fun........

 

That "3-in-1" stuff works pretty well... comes in a little red and white can.

It takes a bunch of those 2 ounce cans to fill up the engine, though...

I would recommend doing it yourself if you are at all mechancially inclined. I would venture to guess that most of the 19 year olds that are changing the oil at your local lube place do not give a flying rat's a$$ about whether the correct amount was put in or if the engine skirt is replaced properly. You, however should have a vested interest in such things. And it is somewhat enjoyable to know you did it.
