we are just 3 hours from halifax, so should we phone them up and give em an offer (1500$ off mayb...)then tell them we'll go to ottawa if they dont accept...first we gotta sell our damn '99 honda accord....asking 14,800$..... dealer only offered 12,500 on trade

It got me $1852 off.I don't make threats I don't plan to keep. I actually know both the owners and sales management as some of my best customers so I felt it inappropriate to haggle and I didn't have to anyhow. I'm very happy with the first offer they extended to me.

$12,500 is actually not bad if you're saving tax on that as that amounts to 1875 which is close to the 2300 difference you're looking for. So unless you can find someone to do a convenience deal it's a no brainer saving you a lot of headaches. In fact anything over $12,925 through the convenience deal gives you more than the $14800 you want because of the tax savings.
Good luck

That's cool.
My post explains why I didn't bother nickel & diming, or worse buy elsewhere to jeopardize my client relationship.

But...
They would only do $500 off take it or leave it, knowing they are the only dealership in town. Quote: "They are moving so fast we don't need to move on the price". $500 -> $1850 isn't nickle and diming, IMO.

On the nickel and diming don't take it the wrong way as it was a reference really to me and not you. I agree that another $1350 is worth negotiating on since they took so little off to begin with. Fortunately likely because I knew them, they offered me a good deal to start and I took it as opposed to even haggling at all so that's what I meant. You had to do what you felt was right for your situation. As I said before that's cool.
Enjoy the G.

It's different for each provinces just like you have for the states but we have the federal portion of 8% as standard and then the provincial part can vary although 15 points is the norm. Alberta has no provincial tax. My province has 7% for total of 15%. We're taxed to death here whether it's income, sales, gas, licenses whatever.
