Right where the boot meets the base of the shifter **** just below the 1" or so aluminum ring at about 1 o'clock below the ring if you were looking at it from the driver's seat. There is a sharp pointed piece of metal like the end of a wire hanger that pushes against the boot and at some point may puncture the boot. Does anyone else with a 6 spd have that-don't know if the 04 and 03 models had the same configuration- I am trying to figure out if I have a defect or it is just poor design by Infiniti. 6 speeders please take a look when you get a chance and let me know what you find. Thanks.

Ever had shifter work done? There IS a "cable tie" fastner right there where you describe and if replaced and not cut to length I could see how it might be quite sharp. It's failry easy to remove the round "lip" at the base of the shifter boot, unhook the leather boot from all of it's little clips and lift it up to see the underside.
You might do that and see if something needs trimming.

It is a brand new car only 2 weeks old so I guess I will bring this to the dealer's attention when I bring her in for an oil change. I think you are right about the cable tie as I can kind of turn it with my hands on the boot. Thanks for the feedbackOriginally Posted by doogie
