Changing engine oil....help

Re: Changing engine oil....help
I avoid going to dealerships or shops for one reason.............nobody takes better care of your car than yoruself. I've seen it many times before when people bring their car in for a routine inspection, oil chg, etc......they end up noticing a dent or scratch on their cars that weren't there before. But how are you going to argue that? The dealer or shop will just say, "we didn't do it.........it was there already."

Re: Changing engine oil....help
Try and change it yourself. Use the extra money to buy better Oil and Filters. I use Mobil One from Costco. Then you know it's done right. Hint on dropping the front pan. Use you portable drill with a 10mm socket. I put mine up on jack stands. I am on my third change and this last one took all of 20 minutes including finding the tools.

Re: Changing engine oil....help
I totally agree. It's best to change the engine oil yourself. Too many of these places, and I don't care where you go, do the "slam bam thank you ma'am" and usually forget something. Which is always to your detriment. Changing oil is a no brainer.
I have to say, when we saw the size of the oil filter for this car, we thought, now way, this can't be right. The thing is tiny. I have never seen one that small on a car before. Have you?

Re: Changing engine oil....help
Oil Filter: Yes it is small, same size and part number for the 350 Z but half the size (literally) of the ones on the altima and maxima. Less DP, Higher Oil Pressure I have to assume is what the engineers were trying. (if you take less power pushing the oil thru a smaller filter you should have more horses, eh?)

Re: Changing engine oil....help
UR already has full pulley sets for the G out
the crankshaft pulley I have already done on a VQ engine (altima) and it is good for 6.5 hp and about 6 lbft of torque.
I still have my stock altima crank pulley and will compare the two soon (next week sometime). If they are the same, I recommend it. If Nissan has already lightened it, we might have to do some more R and D. I had a 1400 watt system with a 80 amp peak draw, and went thru Phoenix many times in traffic in the summer with no problems with accessories.
It is a cheap, easy (if you have a MT) install and safe mod for cars without a harmonic balancer on the UDP (such as ours)
What else? Air flow, air flow, airflow. any thing you can do to get more air thru this engine the better. Intake you may not be able to improve on. But the exhaust can be
still researching it, but I have been driving and working with this VQ since November 2001 and have been involved in prototyping or custom building components for it since. Including headers, Jet Chip (piece of crap), couple intakes, and a catback exhaust. So even though a couple of those were failures (Chip and an intake), I have a pretty good idea about this engine's behaviors under different circumstances.
I have had my altima at the track twice and dyno'ed repeatedly
Also, we need to work on our powerband. this car dies at about 6100 rpm as far as Tq/Hp go, but headers can easily fix that for about 1-2 grand

Re: Changing engine oil....help
See above dyno from my 2002 3.5 altima with 4AT tranny
power drops off at 6400 rpms pretty quick. headers extended that out from about 6200 stock. my redline was 6700 rpm
Now mind you, that is 234 Whp from an automatic transmission. with 21% drivetrain losses that is 300 crank hp.
from an engine rated 240 stock. That is a 25% increase. We start at 260. That means if we have ANYTHING close to the success people are having with the altima, we can see 325 crank, 275 wheel hp without EVER going into the engine, bolt ons only.
350 whp is low twelve, high 11 sec territory, so a shot of NOS, some bolt ons and some slicks, you are in corvette territory at the dragstrip for about 3 grand in mods.
Just something to think about
