Talking First Impression of my new 6MT

After much consideration, I decided to get a 6MT w/ Premium, Aero and Navi.
I had done a lot of research, test drives and even read the owners & navi manuals to choose this car (over TL).

First impression is Whoo Hoo! The car is everything I expected. I only have 600 miles on it, so I haven't pushed the motor, but handling is just outstanding.

I have had a chance to drive Winston cup cars on a track. Those obviously handled amazingly well. The 6MT is not in that class, but it's about the best I have ever driven. It is well ahead of my old Saab Turbo.

The 6MT is very quiet on the highway, and rides very smoothly. I was pleasantly suprised that the sport suspension and 18" wheels could provide such a comfortable ride and still handle like it does.

Stereo is ok for OEM. I like the MP3 feature, but it reads a disk with 150 songs a little slow. I am going to experiment with multiple CD manufacturers to see if that makes a different. I will be adding in an Infinity Basslink next weekend to suplement the missing low end of the Bose sub.

I have really be impressed with some of the little things: speed sensitive wipers, honeycomb covers on front air intake, goodyear nct 5 tires are very quiet and perform well in rain, just right engine sound in cabin when accelerating, one touch windows all around, individual door lights.

Overall a well built car and such a blast to drive.

What are your impressions about the smoothness of the 1st to 2nd shift when you are giving it a little gas. I have 900 miles on my 05 6 spd and make smooth 1 to 2 shifts only about 50% of the time and I have been a "stick only" driver for over 20 yrs. I find that I have to be just perfect in timing the release of the clutch and giving of the gas to be smooth from 1st to 2nd.

I agree and find the clutch to be very sensitive -- a slight miss in leaving the clutch results in not so smooth shifting -- i have driven so many manual transmission cars and find the G clutch to be extremely sensitive.

My 2nd gear is still tight sometimes although it has 3200 miles -- it improved slightly but is still stiff -- am showing it to the dealer during my 1st oil change.

My 2005 6sp (6000mi) drives much better now than she did during the break in. I'm sure it's a combination of my getting more comfortable with the car and the engine/transmission breaking in. When I drive now, aside from 1st gear, I have the gears timed so well that I just barely have to depress the clutch to shift.

Great car keeps getting better.

So between test driving the auto and the M6, was the M6 noticeably quicker? I've heard the difference is slight.. I test drove an auto, but since they had no M6's, I was out of luck there.

I've been driving manual transmission vehicles all my life, and I too was surprised at the narrow "tickle" zone that the 6MT has. It takes some getting used to in order to get the shifting as smooth as we know it can be.

1st to 2nd

Yep, I have that issue too. I have been driving a stick for 26 years. Looked like a newbie the first few days.

I have pretty much gotten through that and am getting smoother shifts now.

My wife on the other hand...

IOSPro welcome to the board and congrats on the ride. You'll get used to the stick and clutch in no time. They work great for me.

You'll never find an M6 at an Infiniti dealership. They're made by BMW and won't be available in the states for a few more months.

Unless you mean 6MT..

Cool Shifting

After driving my 6K now, I have the 1 to 2 shift worked out fairly well. I find that if I am not concentrating on the shift, I make it a lot smoother. Too much thinking is a bad thing.

How did the TL compare to the G? Those are good looking cars, but the FWD killed it for me at least.
