Bad Accident

Hi All,

I'm sad to share with you the worst day for my G. I was enjoying a beautiful spring day, driving along with my roof and windows down. I came to a stop light and while waiting for a green light, out of nowhere this jerk, rear ended me.

I was completely stopped and he was doing 65 miles/hr. He did not even try to stop. He sent me spinning across two lanes of traffic and ended up facing the opposite direction on top of the sidewalk.

The car is destroyed. The frame, front suspension, exhaust, roof and doors and all bent. There must be much more serious damage that I can't see. The bodyshop where the tow truck took my car said it is a write off. Either way, I am not keeping this car after this.

I am ok, except for a badly bruised leg and stiff neck. I'm just glad my kids were not with me at the time.

As for the little jerk, he walked away also. The police charged him with careless driving.

Here are some pics I took with my cell phone. And please....keep an eye on who's behind you all the time.

The important thing is you are OK-cars can be replaced. Go for a total as the car will never be the same. Any thoughts on getting another G?

Chico, glad to hear you were alone and not seriously injured. Hopefully the leg and neck will be okay soon. That's a crying shame about the car. I know it's scary how many bad and inattentive drivers are out there. Unfortunate you had to find that yourself the hard way.
Good luck and keep us posted on your next move with a new car and what happens with those 20's.

My condolences for your G and thank your lucky stars you walked away as things can always be worse.

I think you might be off on your speed estimate. the paramedics would have needed to cut you out of the caw with the jaws of life on a 60 MPH hit.

Agreed, I was rear ended by a 94 F-150 at about 35MPH in a 00 Mazda 626 a couple yrs ago and the damage was worst than in the picture, only difference I wasn't in the car, imagine that. Long story.

Thank you all for your nice thoughts. I really don't know how that guy did not see me. He told the cops he was distracted for a moment before he hit me.

The speed I posted is what it is on the police report. If that is the case, then I have to say INFINITI builds a very safe car.

As for a new car, I'm thinking of replacing my G with an '05 in Billiant Silver this time. I've been looking at different cars in the last hour (BMW, LEXUS, etc) and nothing seems to impress me like the G.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

Chico,

Glad to hear you're pretty much okay. The G did its thing and protected you well in such a high speed crash. Thank God for crumple zones.

Sorry t hear about your mishap. Be happy you were in a G35. I think this is a very safe car. Nissan learned something from some of their rear end experiences with the Maxima. But tell me, did any of your airbags deploy? Not to hijack the thread, but the sedan has more airbags than any BMW. As far as I know it also is the only one in its class to have rear side curtain airbags except maybe some of the Volvos which obviously don't compare in any other respect.

Wow Chico, it's a miracle that you survived without being injured worse! What type of vehicle hit you? It looks as though the bumpers were pretty evenly matched but the other driver swerved at the last moment. That would explain the impact being centered on the left rear side. Anyway, an awful lot of the force was taken in the crumple zone. The G35 is clearly an extremely well designed vehicle for surviving a crash.

I don't know if crash worthiness factors in your evaluation of replacement cars but I can see how you might be inclined to favor G35's after this experience.

Cale
