Question regarding maintenance schedule...

Hello all,

I don't drive my G that much only during the weekends. I had my G for almost 5 months now. Had it oil change after 3 months at 1700 miles. The way it's going, do I need oil change every 3 month? I am guessing I probably only drive a little over 6,000 miles a year. Just wondering if anyone out there in my same shoes with low mileages and should I bring into service based on the "time" and not the "mileage".

Another question from you guys who mod your car. Doesn't that screw up your warranty? with the Z-tubes, exhaust, ground gear wires, etc??? I thought aobut a Z-tube to make the car sound a little better just not sure what to expect when bringing to dealer to service.

Thanks...

I would guess that with that little driving you should be using the longer interval schedule...I think it's oil change 7500 or 6 months? Check your OM.

I say yes, do your service based on time.

I have always wondered... Does oil go bad after 3 months of use? Doesn't seem logical - I think it just a way to get you to spend money. Anyone?

Yes oil can go bad after 3 months. It builds up acids that can do big damage.
I say go by the time schedule and do it every 3-4 months too.

Make sure any mods are installed properly, and if possible, talk to your dealer for his input on mods and what his thinking is. Some dealers are cool with it, others aren't.
C.

I was listening to a car show yesterday where someone who drove his truck little wasn't changing his oil regularly. More extreme case of over a year, and only 700 miles, he had builtup water in his engine.

You need to drive a vehicle enough when it gets hot to clear out the water byproducts of combustion, or it is hard on your engine.

I probably drive my pickup even less than you drive your G35, but I make sure to take it out on the highway for a few hundred miles a few times a year, and don't go over 6 months on an oil change (it is 4 1/2 months now).

My oil change sticker on my new G - says to change at 3750 miles, but they did not put a date on it. Strange.

I also have an '04 RAV4 that I don't drive much ... had a year now and have just rolled past 5,000 miles.

So I'm doing the oil change every 6-months, and I make it a point to take it out on the freeway at least once a month just to "blow the gunky stuff out of it" as Gramps used to say

Thanks for the replies. For example the 15k service. That should be done when you hit 15k or like 1 year or something like that. I probably won't hit 15k till my 3rd year, unless I find a new job where I have to drive during the weekdays. If I go with the time interval would that make sense to have that service in 1 yr? If I only have like 5,000 - 6,000 miles?
