Fuel system and Throttle Body Cleaning

Fuel system and Throttle Body Cleaning
My dealer tried to offer this to me for $200. I am thinking I might do it myself. I was going to remove the throttle body, and clean the thing, then put it back on with a new gasket. Has anyone had this done, or done it themselves? As far as the fuel injectors, what is the difference between what they do, and running some Chevron Techron fuel treatment through the system? I have always thought that it was bad to use these fuel system cleaners because they remove the protective coating on the injectors. I am pretty sure that they remove each injector at the dealer, then run it through a machine to clean it, but what is the difference?

If you have Costco, look for the 4-pak Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. They have it for $9.95. One bottle per tank every month or so should keep things cleaned up. The $200 dealer deal is OK as a 30K service since they hook up the cleaning system directly to the fuel rail. It cleans the injectors, intake valves, and combustion chamber of deposits. But its not really needed if you just use a good detergent gasoline, or do the fuel additive regularly.

If you use that consistently, the injectors should be fine.
Take of the inlet tube and inspect the throttle plate inside the T/B.

All gasoline has the same spec's. It's the additives that are put in to them that make them different. Most gasoline that has to be shipped to large cities is shipped by pipeline into large tanks, and then shipped by truck to their gas station locations(chevron, shell, texaco, etc.) The additives are added into the tanker trucks as they fill at a truck rack connected to these large tank farms. The government regulates the additives put into gasoline, and must meet standards for cleaning fuel systems. But, yes some additives are better than others, and you usually pay more for it at the pump. I wouldn't worry about fouling injectors with name brand gasoline unless your car has over 60k miles. Even then, you probably won't need to clean your injectors unless you are constantly using "bad gas".

So anything on that fuel system cleaning from Infiniti? I am just curious if it's worth it, or if I should just put in some Chevron Techron and call it a day. But at the same time, I have heard that those fuel cleaners strip a protective coating off the injectors. Anyone have any thoughts/knowledge/experience? Thanks
