Cracked windshield
Cracked windshield
I have a 3-month old G35 sedan. Everything is great, except this week I discovered a chip in the windshield and a crack running a third of the way down the center, immediately next to the location where the rear-view mirror is attached. I have no recollection of anything hitting the windshield. When I called my dealer's service department, I was told that they had been seeing an inordinate number of broken G35 windshields (he mentioned that one guy had had two). The glass repair shop they referred me to said the same thing. In the end, it will cost me the $100 deductible and my insurer $650. You would think, if this is a recurrent problem, the insurers would notice and would be incentivized to followup with Infiniti. Infiniti would also have had to notice that it is selling a lot of replacement windshields. Has anyone heard of this issue? Thanks.
Re: Cracked windshield
Hmm.. A rock hit my windshield a few months back and I was informed to call AAA (my insurance) AAA told me that if it happened recently they would send poeple out to my place of business to fix it for free... maybe if you tell them it happened recently for you... :> they fan fix it for free.....
Re: Cracked windshield
The "free" fix is about a $40 glass repair, where they inject a clear polymer stuff into the chip to prevent it from cracking. Your insurance company will usually pay this fee, making it free, as it's cheaper for them than waiting for the glass to crack, and having to replace the entire windshield.
Since in this case, there's already a large crack, it's too late for the repair solution, and the windshield must be replaced.
