Grabby Brakes

Greetings, first post. Picked up my 03 Garnet Sedan last night. 24,000 miles, perfect condition...except....

the brakes are grabby when you first apply them. At low speeds it really is unnerving, at high speeds its fine. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

You'll get used to it, one day isn't enough, you will really come to appreciate these brakes, even though they wear fast!

Yep! It took me a while to get adjusted to the brakes. I was driving a much smaller 4 cyl car before my G and had to adjust to both the acceleration and the braking.

Get used to it. I have 500 miles on my car and I still throw myself forward every now and then.

The reason the brakes are so touchy is because of Brake Assist. The following quote comes from the Infiniti website.

In emergency braking situations, many drivers don't brake hard enough, soon enough. Brake Assist monitors how you apply the brakes, and sensing emergency braking, applies maximum brake force for potentially shorter stops. The quicker the stop, the better your chances for avoiding trouble.

I recently had my '05 sedan in for its 7k service. I got an '04 sedan loaner for the day and noticed that the '04's brakes seemed a LOT more grabby, especially when coming to a complete stop. The '05 brakes don't feel weak, they just seem to be more progressive.

Could be related to wear, I suppose, as the '04 had 18k on it.

PS - I'm so jealous of the Nismo bumper for pre-05 sedans... grrr

03-04 Sedans and coupes were incredibly grabby. They also wear like crazy, so start looking into aftermarket brake kits.

I'm not too worried about it as I just had my front replaced under warranty at 25K By the time I need another set, there will be plenty of aftermarket and oem replacement parts at more reasonable prices.
