Thumbs down road noise (splashing) from rear fenderwells!!

Does anyone esle hear all the water splashed up into the rear fenderwells when driving on wet roads.

It is rediculous. Has anyone used dynamat or similar or someother noise silencer to quiet the fenderwells?

Thanks,

Andrew

I have the same problem in my G. Personally for the amount of money we paid for these cars, I am not too happy with it. Shakes, rattles, wind noise, water splashing, etc... are some of the complains I got.

Ditto. I had raised a thread on this previously too. Most cars have some kind of plastic liners inside the wheel well that helps dampen debris impact noise. In the long run, probably very long run though, I imagine the undercoating can be penetrated and rusting in that area can occurred. Guess will adapt and learn to live with it, and definitely be more cognizant of it in my next car purchase.

Go to a detail shop and have the rear wells shot with undercoating. It helps a LOT.

Interesting that the G35x does not have this problem.

In fact I never even noticed it while driving a G35x for 2 weeks in all types of weather. First rainy day drive in the RWD, and I'm looking in the back for an open window or door ajar.

So, I checked in behind the jack storage area, and found the G35x had much higher quality sound insulation. The G35x had a black rubber mat type of insulation and the G35 used a cheap white paper diaper-like material.

Now, I never did ask the dealer if the G35x had some dealer installed sound package. But I did not see one on the option list.

Yes, I have my whole rear seat/wheel wells dynamatted. Not a huge difference, however there is some reduced noise.

wheelman,

The 1st time I noticed it I pulled over. I was sure that one of the doors was ajar. Much to my dismay, it was not. Very interesting about the X though. I'll check with the dealer to see about what goes on the G35X fenderwells.

Yes, I used to.
Yes.
Yes. On page 24 of the current (Summer) issue of Sport Z Magazine you'll find an article titled "Hush! Silencing Road Noise in a Z / G" that should be of interest.

Hey Dave-
Nice write-up and tips with your article (this one and all the other ones). Its nice to have the Gs so well represented.

How many square feet did it take to install in your trunk?

Had the trunk dynamatted with my stereo work. Does a nice job, although it severaly mutes the exhaust noise as well

I'll tell you that it was never loud enough that I actually thought the door was open, though

G_Money,

Thanks for the positive feedback.

I used one "roll" (50 sq-ft) of Ultimate to cover the trunk's floor, wheelwells, quarter panels and under the back seat. If you plan to do the trunk lid, etc. you'll need more. I also cut and fit one sheet of Vcomp to go under the trunk mat. The results are well worth it, IMO.
