Door ding help

I was looking at my nice pretty car this evening and was about to wipe off what appeared to be a dirt smudge IT'S A FREAKING DOOR DING. It is HUGE. I have no idea what the hell did it since they had to basically scrape the freaking door. It's about and inch and a half by about a half inch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this "fixed"? It appears to only be a paint scrape but I am scared to look too closely. LOL

I was going to do the whole 6 hour wax job this weekend - what's wrong with these damn savages down here.

Quick - demand a trade for the 05 6mt in Trey's side of the garage. That's the quickest fix I can think of. Sorry to be insensitive (STBI), you're right, we live in a society of savages, it sucks and it spoils many a car. Have you heard of paintless-dent repair? I can't say if it'll help but others posting here swear by it. I would be surprised if a body shop would even attempt a repair for less than $500. It's almost as though the auto body shops work on the principal that the average insurance deductible is $500 and therefore that's the starting point for repairs.

I'm sorry to hear of your damage, take care.

Cale

Look in phone books for the dent removal place, like dent wizard, painless dent...if it didnt go thru the paint? it can be repaired, and you wont able to tell the differecne, depend on location of the dent? it should be around 100~ish....do not use those did-it-yourself dent removal that sold over the counter like in autozone, it just dont work, I should know...

Same issue here, my 4 week old G has a ding over the right rear wheel. Even though I'm very careful where I park, some ahole has to come by and just smack their door on my car. I probably would have taken the key approach, but I didn't notice until later that day. SOB's

I checked Dent Doctor and they don't have any franchises in Alabama (where your sig says your located):

How close are you to Mississippi ?

Definitely don't sweat this.....and definitely don't go to a body shop - these dent removal guys work magic for well under $100.

Avoid a repaint at all costs. If ding repair doesn't work, see if there is anyone who can artfully blend in a spot without repainting the entire door.

Yeh, I'd love to do that but that would be BAD. I drove that car for all my errands this week while he was gone. I was trying to be nice and help get it through the break-in faster. Well I determined that I really DON"T need that car. I would probably get arrested! LOL!! Although I am DYING to get it past the break-in so I can play with it a little. It's FUN!!!

'Bout 3 hours give or take a little at the closest. Hope I can avoid that drive and still get it fixed.

Ok, my new "friend" Brian from Atlanta gave me a nice work up of a total wax job (thank you!!) and says that some things can be "worked" out. I am REALLY hoping that this is one of those things. I will try to go down and take some pics later today to show the damage. It really looks like a dirt smudge just to look at it but I know it isn't just a smudge! Like I said, I'll try to get a couple pics and see what you guys think.

Um, I don't want you "working out" anything with any "frineds" named Brian.

Just kidding. The worst part of the ding is that I noticed it the day I got the 05. I was outside washing the 04 before we went to get the new one, and after it dried, I just assumed it was a dirty spot I had missed. After looking at it more closely last night, we determined it was paint that someone felt compelled to swap with our car.

When I ran my fintertips over it, I didn't feel much of a difference in the surface texture, meaning it's not a proper ding/dent. It's not depressed from the surrounding area. However, there is definitely paint residue leftover. I'm afraid though that if we were successful at removing the alien colors, we would find a fine series of scratches underneath. That's what ultimately will need to be remedied.

I don’t know how anyone feels about this stuff, but I use GS 27, ya know like the guy in the commercial. For me it really does work, takes minor scratches, paint residue, etc... right out. I must admit I used it on my G and it did take out the scuff that was left, but I do have a very very small dent. You just can’t rub it on that hard, just light pressure. And it will NOT remove a major scratch, like something that went past the clearcoat.

Cool, we'll definitely have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

I use the GS 27 on my car to hide the minor scrapes and scratches -- it works pretty well.
My wife scraped our mini-van bumper on a steel post. I used the GS and now you can hardly tell without close inspection.

My friend uses the Turtle wax scratch "remover" -- it is available in a number of basic colors to blend in with your paint color.

hehehehehe

I did that too a few years back when we had a caravan! 'Cept mine was BAD! Cost us almost $500 to get fixed and required removing the big dent and repainting the rear quarter panal.

I didn't want to tell my hubby I did it either. I felt like I was telling my parents that I lied about something. LOL
