G35 vs. Audi S4

Those cars are kinda apples and oranges. Not really comparable.
If I had $50K+ burning a hole in my pocket, I'd go with the S4.
Would I buy one for my wife (or girlfriend in your case)? No.
My wife wouldn't want/need an all wheel drive, 6 spd, big time horsepower a$$ kickin car like an S4.
Maybe you should ask your gf which car she'd like, instead of a bunch of strangers on a forum board. Maybe she'll say a Honda Accord. That way you can save yourself $25K to spend on something else.
Or give her your coupe and get yourself the S4

Personally, I think the Audi styling and interior is very nice. The S4 is definately packin' the ponies too. But its seems like the bodystyle is common, I mean its shared with the A4. The G35 is unique though. Its the only sports car with that cutting yet smoooooth style. G35 all the way! Peace

Back to the top, still a very fast car, and if you can find one with reasonable miles and price, go for it. Should be about $25k or so for a normal specimen.
Handling wise, though, I think the G's more nimble, but AWD has a nice safety factor to it.

All 3 are great cars in their own right ... how about a used Accord for her and then put a down payment on a vacation house with the difference
2.7T S4 is a great car, but I personally have passed on the used Audis - those years had plenty of nagging little problems, and that's without considering how somebody may have driven that engine. VR32 has some nice things going for it, but more of a stylish, slower WRX or EVO - is that how she drives?
Guess that leaves the G Sedan ... maybe get her an all-wheel drive X so she can drive when you hit the ski slopes or something? If she doesn't like what you get her, I'm sure somebody on this board will take it ... haha

the b5 S4 is a great car, i wish i could of afforded the insurance so i went with the b5 1.8T.
If the car was for you and you were mod crazy i would totally get the Audi, like someone before has stated its a mod friendly car and big gains in Hp is easily achievable.
Remember that the Audi's turbos arent the best though, around 60k and you have to watch out.
Will the G35 be new or even the vw?
Since the car is for your wife , i would say go with a newer car that has a new car warranty.
just give her your coupe and get the s4 . thats my vote too

The Audis are great for the first couple of years. The S4 is a great ride, but reliability can be a problem. Some are plagued with nagging electrical gremlins as are many Audis. Then there are those arrogant German techs at the dealerships that never believe anything can be wrong with their superior engineered cars.
I do like the styling of the new A4 however, much better than the old, but this don't apply in your case.
Go with the G, for a better all-round choice.

audi interiors are junk after a few years....same thing with the jettas of the same years. The window switches are funky too....they make a ratcheting noise when they are pressed.
surprised you didn't mention an e46. Those are great cars.
VW is overpriced in my opinion, but still a cool car none the less.

new S4's run low 13's in the quarter. a new a4 will run a low-mid 15. to pick up 2 seconds in the 1/4, you are going to have to spend alot more than 4-5 grand on that engine...unless you do a huge nitrous shot and run the turbos past their effeciency....then you will be replacing the engine and turbos very soon.
