Disappointment at the drag strip
I went to Moroso Motorsports Park in West Plam Beach, FL to try the new G on the 1/4 mile.
There was a guy with a new (left over)'04 6MT sedan there, too. After teching in, I talked with him. He said he was runnign 15.1. Ouch, I thought to myself. Aren't the '04s supposed to run low 14as at close to 100mph???
Anyway, when I finally got to run, I was trying to pay attention to the launch. I read other guys' problems with lainching these cars. Sure enough, I blew it. I popped the clutch too hard at about 3K rpm, at I spun hard.....shook the tires badly, and finally got going. 2.4 60'!
I picked up my timeslip only to see a 15.1 at 95 MPH!
I know it was a terrible launch, but where is the mph.
BTW, the conditions sucked. it was raining earlier in the day, and they weren't sure if they were going to race. the Temp was 80*. Humidity was 76%. Weather "felt like" 86*. I believe the barometer was 29.9.
About 1.5 hours later, (same condiotions), I got to run again. This time, I feathered the launch from 2K rpm. No wheel spin, and a 2.3 60' time. Still Sucks. The run felt good, BUT.........
I picked the timeslip and it was a 14.98 @95.10 mph. Yeah, a 14.
My only comfor tcomes from the other G sedan. I know he ran a 15.1 and 15.4. Could the weather be affecting our cars that much???I can't believe it. These cars are almost 5 mph off of where they should be. That about 50 missing HP!!! Arrgghh!
One conclusion I have is that I need to work on launching this car. It is certainly not as easy to hook up and launch as my old mustangs used to be.

yuo'd think so.
The low mph really worries me. Usually, no matter how bad you botch the launch, you will MPH about the same. Sometimes, you even show a higher MPH when you have a bad launch. Since the MPH is very indicative of the HP that the engine is making, my car isn't making a whole lot of power.
Granted, the atmospheric conditions really sucked. I am just wondering how much though!

Calculated densisty altitude for West Palm Beach, FL on 6/24 from 7pm to 9pm was ~1700'. The corrected ET/MPH for conditions is roughly 14.6@97mph.
6MT Gs running 14.0@100mph are far and few between it much of it relys on a good track and stellar conditions (dry air, cold, high baro, sea level). Conditions alone can mean .5 seconds and 3mph difference. Every track is different too. Some are simply faster than others. Case in point I ran my 03 G auto in a 1700' DA and ran a 14.4@98mph. Maybe Moroso is really slow?
Your 60 foot is pretty dismal. A 2.3 out of a RWD car is pretty bad, but you know this. My auto will do a low 2.2 or high 2.1 every time without a chirp of the tire and a 2000rpm launch. I'd think a 6MT should be able to get a low 2.1 pretty easily.

where can you find the density altitude conversions?
also, I agree. a 2.3 sucks!!! My first was a 2.4!
Launching this car is a bit tricky. I couldn't believe how nasty the wheel spin and wheel hop were on my first launch.

Not bad unless you race a lot.
Takes a lot of practice and ideal conditions and traction to get optimum times.
Are you lifting at the 1/4 lights, or powering thru the speed trap which extends past the 1/4 point? If you're lifting at the lights, it's costing you a few mph.

u just need to go somewhere and practice launching..i wouldnt worry about the track too much because the track is different from normal road conditions.. a lot of poeple cant get off the line at the tracks cuz the track sucks!!
