How did you break-in your G?
How did you break-in your G?
Because there's so much controversy over which method works best when breaking in a new car, I'd like to find out which method the majority of people used. I'll be getting a new G, most likely the '06, in a few months and I'm not sure how I should break it in.

As your tagline says, be a man, do the right thing.
I followed the manual. Think I broke 4K twice during the first 1200, and not by much. I was learning to anticipate the manual-shift mode of my auto.
Plenty of time to rev high later.

Doesn't it make you guys wonder what would've happened if you broke-in your G more aggressively? Reading Motoman's website got me thinking because he does give valid reasons. It seems as though the majority followed the manual, but for those complaining about how sluggish their G's feel in comparison to the loaners, isn't there a possibility that a hard break-in would be of greater benefit than a mellow one?

Followed the manual this time, my last nissan went kablooey at 37k miles and I ripped on it 2 times during break in. This car hit 5000 rpm on about 3 occasions at 1/4 throttle. The engine was tight for about 2,500 miles, it has 8,600 and is much smoother and more powerful now.
Does anyone elses engine make a rattling metalic sound when they turn the ignition off. It sounds like the oil is low and all the valves in the head are rattling around. Oil level is fine and car runs great, should I not worry?

I babied it for just over 400 miles and started revving more and more until 1000 miles. I have been launching to between 6 and 7k quite often now around 1500 miles and gaddam she's fast. I calculated about 1,000,000 cycles at 400 miles which I think is enough to achieve the required deformation on all engine break in parts. That, and I really couldn't wait any longer to hammer it....
I figured there must be a reason why Infiniti says 1200 miles so that is what I did. All things being equal (which they usually aren't), the engineers at Infiniti know more about break in than the avg. Joe on this board, myself included.

No, the noise only occurs right as the ignition is turned off and the engine spins its last few cycles before haulting. It just sounds like something is loose in the head, I don't remember the VQ in my Maxima ever doing that.
