When you're on the NJ turnpike at 8:00AM you have to be going at least 85mph to be in the left lane without getting flashed over or honked at. When your cruising up around 85-90 you tend to slow down without noticing and you have to top 100 to catch up to the car in front of you. I would say that I crack 100mph just about every time I drive the Turnpike during rush hour. I have popped 100 twice in the G35 and I was amazed at how much more pull the car had. I would say that this car could go at least 165 before topping out. During that time the State Troopers are looking for suspicious vehicles trying to get into the Tunnels or Bridge to NYC or pulling over trucks for spot checks. After 10am, that is when you have to start watching out for speeding tickets, unless your weaving through heavy rush hour traffic and a cop sees you.

 

According to the dealer the G35 is governed at 155, and is one of the fastest in this group of sport sedans.

 

I guess the traffic wasn't going this fast the times I've been on the NJ turnpikes. 3 times to/from Fort Monmouth from Newark, and the other time I drove from Monmouth to Atlantic city.

I was driving a Matrix, though my G35 with Navi would have been very useful.

i live in northern california, on my way down to san deigo in our rental... an '04 c240. we encountered a g35 sedan... i maxed out at around 140mph while that g35 was still accelerating... we were like damn.

 

Those are not my pics. However I have had my car up to that speed and it was solid. However I am lowered om 245/35/19 which might help with stability.

 

everyone's talking about it being stable till 135...... i mean... 156 is scary because the dashes seem more like lines on either side of your lane, but the G is solid. I woulda gonne faster if i had the technosquare. I did it on the 5 mile straight stretch on the Hardy North in Houston (as someone earlier said) and felt like faster woulda been fine. Ive hit 156 4 times now.... the last one i got pulled over at 156 the 4th time and so i wont be doing that again. (the amazing thing is that i got a warning... so i feel like God has given me my second chance and im not gonna blow it)

 

Ya I agree... been there ... done that. Had a nice top speed run and kept it there for a few mins. Thats all I needed.

 

These cars are so smooth, at 120 the car is very stable, haven't gone faster than that yet. I owned a 99 Mustang Cobra and topped it out around 150, I had to hold on with a death grip, thought the car was going to shake apart. The G sedan I have pulls just as hard as my cobra did above 60 mph.

 

Regarding the photos submitted by Gting, I noticed:

That car had more than 1/2 tank of gas (extra weight), had 1,100 RPM remaining until redline (although it probably won't pull redline in 6th, stock), was running nice and cool (just like at 60 MPH), and had only 4,497 miles on it (wait till it starts breaking in!) - plus, it is one of the world's most aerodynamic sedans (especially with aero pkg), so more MPH look surely possible out of that car, if the speed limiter were disabled. It may be a coupe, though.

Myself, I've been an indicated 140 MPH a few times now, and 100 MPH several times, on several occasions. 140 MPH runs were always on Interstate 5 (separated freeway, with between couple hundred yards to 1/4 mile medians between northbound and southbound lanes) in very early, Central Valley morning/absolutely no traffic as far as you can see situations. Smooth and stable, even with a little crosswind buffeting, and always wanted to keep pulling, she did.

I'm not a young guy, either - just one who has always enjoyed cars (and boats) of all types, and enjoyed using them as their capabilities and design intended (i.e, take that 4x4 "Mall Terrain Vehicle" OFFROAD every now and again, would ya?, etc.). The "G" is mechanically a great high speed sedan (regardless of the various "cheap interior, stereo, etc." arguments), designed and built as a world class sedan, capable of running steady 130+ MPH speeds on the Autobahn, as well as other high speed European venues, just like all world class sport sedans are (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, etc.).

They would laugh at us (and probably are!) in Germany if they read this post about "Oh My God - 100 MPH!!" admonishments. I know the law is the law, and we are conditioned to driving our way over here, so that kind of speed is obviously inappropriate 99.999% of the time. Still and all, the car can safely do these speeds, if properly maintained. So if you're gonna do it, Just do it like they do over there (Europe) - safely! In this case, for me, it's when no other drivers are on the road. Now, if you're driving high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic, etc. to do it ... well, that's just bad for everyone

after 130mph the car seems to not pull as hard. becuase it took a lil long to get to 145 before i cut it off. once i change to some wider tires i def will pu**** to 150.

 

Changing to wider tires will increase both your rolling resistance and your aerodynamic drag - both of which will only decrease your speed. That's why cars going for Land Speed records at Bonneville use the skinniest tires they can safely get away with.

Do you have the 6MT, or the 5AT? The 6MT will pull harder at top end - it's just geared better, 'cuz there's more of them (gears).
