i would feel safer with wide tires changing lanes at speed over 100. thats why vettes have that super wide rear, and that is why stock bimmers handle better , its mostly because of tire advantages. switching lanes at 120 with wide tires feel sooo much more stable then with these stock skinnies..

Killer -

My bad! I didn't understand what you were saying in the prior post - I thought you meant the car wouldn't go over 140 with the present tires, and you thought it somehow would with wider tires! Now I understand that you are saying that you don't feel comfortable/safe without wider tires - that you don't want to push it to it's final and true top end without wider, better tires for stability. You are a wise man - I myself would not attempt to go this fast with anything less than the Goodyear Eagle W rated stock tires, and I already feel more stable and comfortable at speed with my new Eagle F1 GS-D3's, in the larger 235/50/17 size.

Whenever I did make top speed runs (140ish), I always checked the car over thoroughly, tire pressures and condition, etc. before taking off.

The reason Vettes have super wide rear tires is to put the 400 ft/lbs of torque to the ground....

roger that! always check the car to make sure everything is tight before going on top speed runs. and have a buddy drive off ahead of you for a few minutes while u cruise along , after he is about 2 exits ahead of you, verify over the phone to make sure no cops creeping along the side of the highway between you two, then you FLOOR IT till you get to him.
