6MT Clutch Play

Where is your clutch-pedal Sweet Spot before the clutch disengages (the friction point)?

1. Fully Depressed to ¼ Released
2. ¼ Released to ½ Released
3. ½ Released to ¾ Released
4. ¾ Released to Fully Released

With nearly 5K miles I am at #3.
On my prior car I was at #2.
Does this info even mean anything?
Just curios – thanks!

I'm at #3 at just under 2k miles. It's one of my only complaints about my G, too. My '98 Audi A4 also had a #3 (more like #3.5) release point, although the pedal travel was about 50% longer than the G, making it much worse. That was my major complaint about the Audi, although other than that it was a fantastic car. Maybe my memory is more nostalgic than accurate, but I seem to remember my '90 Corrado G60 having a wonderfully short and linear clutch pedal. Wish I could transplant that feel to the G.

Adjusted it from a stock #4 to a not-so-stock #3

...You should have made this a poll. Much easier for folks to reply.

All: Thanks for input.

Doogie:
Good to hear you were able to adjust (wow).
Poll? Point taken for next time (I am still new to forum and was hesitant towards poll due to misconception not too many sedan 6MT owners around to justify poll).

Gsedan35:
Thanks tonz for thread - very informative and confirms my assumption.
Clutch play in my G actually moved from #2 to #3 after about 3.5K miles.
I am accustomed to position #2. So primary concern was if this shift is indication of potential misuse resulting in premature clutch wear/tear. Thread seems to indicate otherwise - i.e. it's by design by the folks at Nissan.

Just got my clutch adjusted at the dealer yesterday (would have done it myself but the car is on a lease so I don't really want to run into any problems). All I can say is wow, the car is so much more enjoyable to drive. I hated the way the stock clutch setup was...not the least bit sporty or easy to drive smooth. Bottom line, adjusting the clutch is a must-do modification (it was for me at least).

yeah the poll comment wasn't a dig at all, was just thinking out loud.. never done one myself either..

The adjustment was pretty freakin' simple and it made the world of difference to my driving, feels way more natural now... Before it felt like I was driving an 18 wheeler

hey arizonag35coupe, when you took your car to the dealer, what exaclty did you ask them to do? i'm considering doing this modification to my clutch as well. you just asked if they can adjust the clutch to remove any freeplay? i hope if I ask them the same thing they wont think i'm crazy and understand what i'm saying hahaha

I pretty much just told them that the clutch felt like it was catching way too high and I wanted it adjusted (I wish I had done this earlier but just waited until I brought the car in for the 1st oil change). Anyway, after they change the oil and everything he tells me that they checked out the clutch and it was fine and within factory specs, but then just said that if I wanted them to adjust it, it would be $40 labor. I told him fine and just said for him to tell the techs that I wanted it to catch as low as possible without having it put any extra wear on the clutch (of course there is a lot of debate about this). So after about 20 mins I pick my car up and drive away a much happier g35 owner. I finally feel like I can drive this car the way I want to. It was always fine on the freeway, but I never was comfortable going all out in 1st or 2nd gear because of the akward engagement.
