05 Sedan vs 350z AT
I had an 03.5 6MT and now have an 05. I'm still in break-in period, but I have yet to notice a significant increase in power. There are a lot of very nice updates to the interior, but I imagine those only added to curb weight.
At the end of the day I imagine it's a wash. And the MotorTrend articles pretty much confirm it.
That said, the G is still a pretty darn fast sport sedan. And the other half of the coin is: speed isn't everything. I still just love finding the apex in this car, it likes to eat corners, and it's hungry.

Track is different from the street.
Street racing is pointless when it comes to determining a car's acceleration.
I don't know if anybody cares, because my source is a car mag(but the best mag, IMO), but Car and Driver reports that the 04 6MT Sedan(reviewed in October of 03) was roughly .4 and .5 seconds slower to 60mph versus the coupe and the z, respectively. However, extended to the quarter, the sedan *matched* the coupe's time, and finished just a 10th behind the z. To quote C&D: "It seems the various outputs from the 3.5s are closer than Nissan would like us to believe." (we already knew that).
For reference, here's the article:

Now, this discussion, particularly the references made in the article, approaches the academic. The article is more of a short take than a comprehensive review; as such, Mr. Kiino fails to mention the exact model years of the coupe and the z to which he compared the times. Also, the times quoted likely were measured under different conditions/drivers.
The point is, it's damn close. Period.

I'm not calling BS on you, but am curious as to how you knew your car's weight, and what you did to shave off roughly 250 pounds. Though I must admit that I don't know the weight differences amongst the various trims available for the z.
Street races, when the parties have no prior agreement and understanding, are silly. Now this is not a lecture that Street racing is dangerous. But what happens is that two guys mash the gas on a green light, and one guy starts winning, and he hits what he deems as the maximum speed he is comfortable driving on a public street, and eases off the gas.
The person losing does not know that the competitor eased off the gas, and thinks that (enter your own variable here) kicked in, and he eventually won.
The first guy writes that he won, and he in his mind and action, terminated the race. The second guy won't let up until he takes the lead, or also reaches his own safe limit.
I am guessing that when he takes the lead, he writes that the first guy beet him off the line, but then he kicked his ***...
Maybe I don't know what I am talking about, but "races" that have no pre-defined finish are stupid, though fun I'll admit.
I lose to guys in 2001 Civics all the time, because I normally don't do 75 in a 45. I crush him to 55 or 60, and call it a day.

I subscribe to the same line of thinking -- If a Civic wants to do 70 in a 30 zone.. go for it.
I've run against ricer cars wanting to race. All I do is take it to 3rd before backing off and let them fly by.. only to see them at the next light.
I slowed down once to let a Accord fly by me.. knowing that a cop was right ahead. He was so busy gloating that he passed the cop at full speed. It was rather funny to see him hits his brakes hard once the cop puts his lights on.
