Finally!New rims, rubber and clears. Yes Pix!

First of all I'd like to thank Chico, Cru, Gee35x, and all the others for advice re fitment. I must say that no tire shops would recommend this fitment to me but with advice from these guys and lots of other posters it all fit great with ZERO rubbing or problems. Secondly, I'd like to apologize for the lack of artistic merit in these pix of my dirty ride but it just won't stop raining since I got em and you take pix quickly and when you can.
Third, yes, I know, I need a drop.

And so without further ado the pix of my ride (and one of Isabella during a roadie to Seattle last week).

Let the flaming begin!

I think it looks great - drop optional.

Sweet Darryl, 19s look great on your X, the wheel gap isn't too bad, if you use the X to it's full potential than you will be scraping with a drop (I must admit though all cars do look better when if you put them a bit closer to Mother earth ).
How's the ride with 19"ers on the X, much harsher?
That's a cute pic of Isabella (won't be long and she'll be wanting to make the move to the G )

First off, we've got one more due in September so I hope a wagon version comes out soon (I have a Passat wagon but....)

The ride is not much harsher but at first blush I would say the little stuff (cracks, joints and such) is a bit choppier but it does now eat up the big bumps and rolls easier. I think going with a 40 series instead of the more common 35 helps in this dept.
I think I may have lost just half of a half of a step in first gear off the line but once on an even slight roll absolutely no diff. Braking seems the same. I kept my 17" for winter.

big daddy, your car looks really nice. You can't get any better fitment than that. Glad to hear I could help with your decision.

By the way, the 19's with the 40 series tires closed your gap by 0.2050" Just something to keep in mind if you decide to drop your car at a later date.

Enjoy

I don't know...looks like she's in a classic Vette. I love my G but a 50s Vette in mint condition would be tough to pass up. Granted the one she's in has seen better days. I don't remember the dual steering wheels being a factory option. ; )

Very nice. If you didn't mentioned, from the 2nd picture I thought it was dropped already. The fender gap looks less than the rwd + sports suspension from your 2nd picture in my opinion.

Chico mentioned the fender gap was lessen by .20 etc. Is that .20 of an inch? How can that be? the stock X's has a huge gap.

This is an interesting question. Chico, my understanding when I used the wheel/tire calculator was that I increased ride height .2050" but it does seem to help with the fill in. A couple other X owners with 19x8.5 on 40 series felt the same. What do you think?
Is it possible that going to +35 on an 8.5" wheel from a +45 on a 7" wheel (which is tucked way in) has just helped with an optical illusion? I am a little p1ssed off at myself cos I meant to measure before I dropped the car off but I was so worried sick about how it was going to look that I forgot.

To be honest I think the terrain is helping out a bit here. If I have increased my ride height combined with the extra .5" ride height the X has if I drop Eibach's in will I come down 1.8"? Is that how the math works? Realistically I would love to drop just a half an inch or so (for the reasons Gee35x mentions) but I don't think there are any options slighter than a Pro-Kit at 1.1". Anyone have any ideas? Thanks one and all.

I am so close to having my dream G......

BTW I definitely like the way the wider stance and rubber improves cornering.

big daddy d...I agree with mikeee2 looks good without the drop. And congrats on your expectant arrival in September, with the G sedan and Passat you will still have lots of room . Looks like you already have your dream G .

mikeee2....as for tire diameters and speedo errors just plug in your tire sizes on this tire calculator, it gives you an idea of the differences (you must remember it is a general guideline, most manufacturers vary in dimensions a little.)

I know it is a little confusing, and I'm by no means pretending to be an expert. But from experience of my own, the ride height difference in the "WHEEL / TIRE CALCULATOR" is exactly how much more my wheel gap closed overall in the wheelwell.

When I compare my car with another G with 19's and exact tire profiles, with the exact lowering kit (Eibach Pro Kit), my car's gap is exactly less the amount that the "WHEEL / TIRE CALCULATOR" stated, thus making my car seem lower than the other.

Once I completed the installation of my wheels and compared measurements before and after, the calculations were dead on the money. For that reason I am confident in saying that your wheel gap is 0.205" closer.

Check out this "tire/ wheel calculation program" that I use all the time. http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm

As for your desired drop, you should PM InTgr8r. He has a nice set up on his G that is less than an 1" drop and I think he did not need any camber kits to correct the alignment.
