Exhaust smell

We have the G sedan for about 2 1/2 years with 23K miles. Lately, I've been noticing a smell from the exhaust after driving it for few minutes. It smells like the gas was not properly burned. Is there people with these kind of problem? The car is not that old or busted. The only thing my wife did different was switching the gas from 91 to 89. Need some advice. Thanks.

not sure what you mean by "properly burned". But if you smell gas while driving you should take it to the dealer right away. It is hard to tell from where I'm sitting but it could be a leak of some sort.

As mentioned above, if you're smelling raw gas, you may have a leak and need to get it to the dealer.

If it's not raw gas you're smelling, switch back to 91 gas and see if "smell" goes away.

Personally, I wouldn't run any octane level less than 91 in my car.

Let us know what happens.

And that's only if there isn't any 93 around, which so far has been never.

Yeah, I'd run 93, but in California where he and I both live, the highest you can get is 91.

You guys who can get 93 are lucky

Thanks guys, I'm gonna switch it back to 91 again and see how it goes. My wife drives this one now starting last month and she only drives about 50 miles a week average so it might take her a while to fully get rid of 89. Or I might just take it to the dealer because the smell is AWFUL and can't stand it.
