Now if I would to get the Avon 235/50/17 to replace my Turanza EL42's on my stock 17, how much wider is the width afterward? I am more concerned about the width because I can't stand the skinny's Turanza's that come stock. Will a 235/50/17 make the fender gap "appear" a little smaller?

hahaah, i wouldnt want to die!!! i knew that 235's wouldnt roll off the rim, but that would be kinda of funny to watch. basically what i meant, i should of been more clear, is that will a 235 decrease handling/performance? right now i have the goodyear gs-d's. they are ok, not as bad as the turanzas el-42. i drove one with those tires, yea they suck big. i would like a little more dry weather grip than the gs-d's. my brother has pilot sport's on his 330 and those are nice. however, they dont come in any size that would work. the goodyear f1's seems like a good choice in 235 50. i also like the bridgestone so3's but again no sizes that would work. this tire thing is frustrating. i love driving hard so i really want tires that will grip hard.

 

lets say i went with the goodyear F1's, they come in both 225 50, and 235 50, which would fit/look better. would 235 look more proportional?

 

225 50 is a little shorter and might make the tires look slightly lower profile, but the speedo will be off by a larger amount.

...As far as grip goes, a 235 EL42 will still grip a million times less than a 235 F1-GSD3. GENERALLY (and there are some caveats including fuel economy and the likes) thinner tires work better in the rain than wider tires, and wider tires provide a larger contact patch so cornering is better but hydroplaning is more of a risk. In all honesty though my F1's are still a million times stickier in the wet than the EL42's in the dry. I used to be able to blip the throttle and break the rear end loose on a whim with the Turanza's, now I have to give the clutch a bit of a shock too to break the back end free.

You mentioned the GSD's. Bear in mind that there is a big difference between the F1-GSD3's and the GS-D's.

..Seriously, dry grip doesn't get much better than with the F1-GSD3's. look at the ratings on tirerack. I've never seen anyone complain about them...

...apart from the fact you have to have them road-force balanced cos they're kind of tough to balance otherwise. They're honestly rock solid.

Quit wondering now. It's being handed to you on a plate. And you know that price on tirerack.com is GREAT for those tires. When I last shopped for them they were 210 a piece. Discount tire locally will match the price (when shipping has been added) and install for free.

not yet; however, i have pretty much decided on the 235 50 17 goodyear fl's, i just got to order them which i'll do probably next week. i'll keep u posted, thanks
