If the 330i With sport, premium, and Cold weather packages was about $34000 most of us would have had a hard time deciding between it and our beloved G35.

Totally agree .... but it's not, so we don't.

On the used BMW comparo, you can knock off $5-10K for a used BMW, but then do the same for an 03/04 G

Yeah, but our Gs lack snob appeal...that's gotta be worth 10K ; )

I do have to back off my earlier statement (in another post) that the new 3 series is ugly. A new 06 Black 330 passed me on the highway and I like the crease that runs to the front wheel an the front view. Most of the car looked quite nice, especially in black...except that ugly butt!

The most balanced vehicle I've driven was a boxster S.
I recently traded my 03 ZHP for an 05 G-6MT.
The Infiniti is better.

At 5-10K less the G wins hands down. I'm considering a 330i ZHP ('04 or '05), cuz the price is more competitive. No other reason. I can assure you. The ZHP will keep up w/ a g35 6MT, no problem. It's 0-60 is below 6, just like the 6mt G. But it's suspension is better, and it fits you like a glove. It's the closest you can get to a M3 sedan right now (from Beemer). It's also got a sweeter exhaust note.
The ZHP will never keep-up with G-6MT.
This is from personal experience after putting approx. 40K miles on my ZHP before trading up to the G

Disagree - the 05 G Sedan exhaust note makes the 330 sound like a kiddie car.
Bimmers are (in todays competitive environment) over-rated.
Exhuast note: True on base/sports models. The ZHP, however, sounds sportier than the G-6MT.

I'm with you on the base model. Looks outdated, and boring. The ZHP does not.

The 330i ZHP exhaust note is not the same as the other 330i.

Maybe you wouldn't buy one, but those on here who know what a BMW is, would definitely consider it. Especially if it was the same price as a G.
Exhuast Note: Right-on. But you know wut. As I discovered - with about $1K, you can mod your G with the new Stillen CAT, wait 1K mile for break-in and believe me when I tell you - the G will roar exactly like an M3 (this is on top of the power gains)

That is between $10K and $14K above what I paid for my loaded(except no Nav) Automatic G35. There is simply not anything they could do to the 330i to make me spend an extra 10K on it. Much less an extra $14K. The 330i is a very nice car that is simply $10K over priced. I am sorry most of us just don’t have 10 grand to throw away. Apparently, there are thousands of 330i owners who do though? The only reason I bought my 02 330i in the first place was because it was 1 year old with 9K miles on it. The original sticker was $41K and I bought it for $32500. Like I said before take ~$10K off the sticker and then it makes it a tough decision. Nothing like a new car though!
Well articulated.
In my humble opinion - in order for the 330i (ZHP) to be even considered against the G-6MT it would have to MSRP at $5K less than the G and have an immaculate maintenance track.

I know exactly what a 330 ZHP is, as well as what other BMWs are. Don't think my lack of appreciation for the brand is based in ignorance. Quite the contrary. I'm on a Navy base filled with a couple of THOUSAND military flight students who all think they're Tom Cruise. The base is crawling with BMWs. I've driven them all - 540 Dinans, M3s, 740s, etc. I don't see what all the hoopla is about. They are all very nice, very overpriced cars.

Again, if you gave me one I'd sell it and buy something I appreciate.

'Understanding what a BMW is' has nothing to do with it. I understand 'what they are' and I'm not so impressed that they would be on my short list. When I bought my G I could have easily afforded a smattering of different BMWs. No thank you very much.
"They are all very nice, very overpriced cars."
Exactly This short sentence says it all.

Actually it is just a Performance package that added about 15 HP(Whoopdy doo) and some other performance mods for only $3500. I like to refer to it by its other ackronym. The "PP" package.

I have an 03 325iT now but will be getting an 06 coupe. In terms of value, it ain't close - the g is just a better deal. Now, if we want to talk handling, I think the BMW handles a bit better. With the 06 Changes, the two brands are pretty much on par feature wise (Bluetooth, seat memory, Bi-Xenon's, etc.) if we want to talk manual transmissions, I like the clutch & shifting in the G - the BMW just has a sloppy loose clutch and a long throw (at least stock.)

I think a G 6MT and a ZHP manual will be pretty close, on the track and in real life. I like hte balance of the BMW better in terms of handling, IMO. However, I don't like it 10k more.

Oh, and the BMW nav (and iDrive!) both really suck.

Had to deal with similar issues. She loved the X and couldn't stand the G....until I let her drive it on a trip to the Central Coast. Now we're almost fighting over it.
