My first speeding ticket! Anyone else share my pain?
Driving back from lunch I was sandwiched b/w a 18 wheeler and some guy in a pickup that decided he wanted to tailgate me. Pulled into the passing lane and quickly got out of that mess....as I was beginning to slow down a Camaro jumps on my bumper and hits the lights. He had just come down the on ramp as I passed....got me for 81 in a 65. I guess I was lucky he didn't get me a few yards earlier when I was closer to 85/90. Luckily tickets in my area are pretty cheap...though I guess the insurance company may take it up a notch. Any other G owners been caught by the law?

... Nope. You're the first G owner to ever get a ticket. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Actually, it happens to the best of us. I've had my share of tickets. My recommendation for your first ticket is to go take a defensive course before your court date and take that with you when you go to court. The the solicitor/prosecutor that this is your first ticket (he'll have your record) and that you "took it upon your own intiative to take a defensive driving course". In most cases they will either drop the ticket or reduce it substantially. For example, in the State of Georgia a speeding ticket of less than 15 over, is not a moving violation, thus no points on your license. So at least get them to reduce it to 14, if they won't drop it in its entirety.
And when you go to court, be sure to look nice. If I were going, I would wear a suit.
Good Luck!

I've been in EXACTLY that situation many times and I do exactly the same thing.
When I'm coming up on a tractor trailer these days, I sit a good ways back until I have a clear shot all the way past, then I go wide and haul a$s around them. I know it's a risk, but I hate sitting in their wake sucking up all the crap they pick up off the road and throw all over my car.
It's one of the very rare occasions that you'll find me moving faster than the flow of traffic. Like you, I "get up" and "get down" quickly to limit my time at speed and minimize risk, but you never know...
Good luck resolving the ticket - if you go to court explain to the judge your intent and describe the situation - he may decide your action was prudent under the circumstances.
Sorry to hear it.

In my case, I was going 11 over on a street with very little traffic. They reduced it to 9 over, which in my city doesn't even get reported to the state, and has no points. And not reported to the insurance company.
So I just paid it in this case. The previous speeding ticket, 8 years earlier, I went through a lawyer and it was dropped.

You can take a defensive driving class as long as u got the last ticket more than
18 months ago. This varies from state to state. Call the traffic court in ur city/county.
If you think the cop isn't going to show up, u will benefit from showing up at the court. If the cop does show up, it's a waste of ur time, b'coz u already have a ticket. Some states require that u take the defensive driving class after paying the fine. Guess it depends on the state.
good luck. I had my share of speeding tix and then I kind of slowed down ....
