Do dealers drill holes on the front bumper when putting license plate frames?

Sorry for the question, but if I buy an 05 instead of ordering an 06, they all have the front plate frames already installed when they PDI the cars. If the front plate frames are removed, are there any wholes or blemishes that will be seen? Do they have to drill holes to install them?

Yes, the dealer has to remove the tow hook cover and drill 2 holes into the front bumper to mount the license plate holder.

Oh Man, so if I buy an 05 that is already on the lot and I decide to take the plates off, I will be left with two holes. What have you all done about this? Just lived with the holes?

When I bought my 05 G35, the front license plate bracket was in the trunk. The salesman (saleslady actually) explained that the front was not required by law in TX. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I don't plan on putting it on.

In Cali., the do require both plates, but I would think that some dealers would leave the fron one at the discretion of the customer, since holes have to be drilled.

I bought my G35 2005 without the front plates installed. Depending on your state, they might be pre-installed dued to state law. If your state doesn't require it, make sure they don't install it if you ordered one.

In Florida they do not and I was fortuneate that the dealer didn't install it so they could advertise from it. I got stuck like this on my last car; I did make good use of the plate after shopping around a bit.

I might see if I can find a local source for heavy bolts like the tow hook and try to modify the front plate bracket to mount to it. I did like the plate I had on my LS and would not mind having another but it isn't worth punching holes in the bumber over.

i got an 05 g35x and i sure as hoola dint put 2 holes in my car just for identifications. i only put/ALLOWED for plated on the back. i think the front license plate look rubish on such a nice car. i live in newjersey and i dont think/careless if they require it. i care only about my cars image. so just ride around wihtout the front license plate and if u get pull over (which i dont think any1 would care) just make up some "my dealer said...." and yull get a warning.

I know I hate that fron plate as well. The problem is, I want to get an 05 be cause of the great deals and virtually no changes for 06, but they put that darn plat up fron on all dealers that I have seen, unless of course you order the car and instruct them not to.

Why give them an obvious opportunity to pull you over anytime they feel like it? - and look for other violations while they're at it... no thanks. Might as well hold a can of beer out the sunroof.

Texas does require it, a law to change that failed last I heard (it was passed by one part of the state congress, then ammended by another).

However, I have lived in Texas for over 5 years, and have never had a front plate on any car I have owned. I have never been pulled over for it, and on the few times I have been pulled over it was never even mentioned. Your results may vary.
