Rim help 19" 20" please
Hey, I just bought a 05 sedan and I am going to buy some rims for it. My question is for anyone that has a set of 20"s has anyone had any trouble with rubbing or hitting anything, and is the ride that bad or can you notice it compared to the stock tires. Also if I decide to go with a 19" how much larger of a tire could I put on over this size, 245/35/ , I am looking at a bit larger than that but I don't know how much larger or wider for clearance problems, thanks a lot!

You don't have to worry about rubbing before and after lowering the car, as long as you get the right offsets for front and back. The ride quality depending on what you have now will change marginally. The car will definately feel and handle better over OEM.
I personally have the 20's and love them.
Here are some possibilities:
front 19x8.5 +35 to +38 offset w/ 245/35/19
rear 19x9.5 +45 offset w/ 275/30/19
or 20's
front 20x8.5 +35 offset w/ 245/35/20
rear 20x9.5 +45 offset w/275/30/20
If you want same size all around you can go with:
19x8.5 +35 w/245/35/19 or
20x8.5 +35 w/245/35/20

I have 245/40/19 +35 with no rubbing and not much in the way of worries re: dinging my rims as a result of going to a 40 series.
With that in mind - 19" tires are hella expensive. They are waaay more than 18's and for some reason they also cost more than the 20's. A 20" set up will probably end up costing a little less (certainly on an ongoing basis) because while the rim is more the tire is cheaper and you have better selection and will continue to save with future sets.
I just felt that the 19" with a 40 was a good compromise between rim size and decent sidewall height for pothole protection. Looks good too. I was also concerned that the larger wheel tide has turned and was trying to avoid that Dub look (I'm not saying anyone here has it - I was just gettin a little paranoid at the time cos it's my work ride).
one other tip: If you fancy yourself a racer really keep your eye on wheel weights. Because it is unsprung weight it can make a difference to acceleration and braking. Not the kind of diffference your passenger will notice - but you might.

BTW Surfed80 I see that's your first post so.......Welcome! Remember to use the search feature first so some of the crustier members don't jump all over ya. But this a great site with a lot of good knowledge and the G is a great ride so Enjoy! Perhaps post a little somethin' about colors, packages, etc. (preferably the cars package and not your own - thanks anyways.)

thanks a lot for all the replies and help everyone has offered me, what about a 245/40/19 will that work? I would go with the 245/35/20 but in San Diego and trips up to LA I will be having pot hole issues and don't want to ruin the rim so I would rather go with a tad more rubber and go with the 19"s but I want to fill the gap so 245/40/19 , can it work? I am not a racer so I don't care to much with the rims weight, thanks a lot!

Go with the 20s. Everyone that has been in my car is SHOCKED at how good it rides, and its better than my 19s were. Go with the 20s. Everyone that has been in my car is SHOCKED at how good it rides, and its better than my 19s were. I'm running the 245/35/20s on 8.5" rims all the way around (+38mm offset) and they are perfect. I've had the car loaded down with people, groceries, Etc and it doesn't rub at all.
