hid theft

dont know about anyone else but where i'm from hid theft is very high and very annoying. i mean even the infiniti dealer i bought my car have to move all there cars with hid out the show lot and inside the warehouse to prevent theft. now i new it was gonna be a little hassle but i had the safe of mind that i had a parking spot in the back of my apt building, well that was until this past firday where at 5:30 in the afternoon while i was home some 2 ****ers try to take my lights. granted that my neighbor noticed them and scared them off. she did take down the license plate number of the car they got into. now i just have to pass that off to my cuz whos a cop and run the plates for address.

anyway i was wodering if anyone else has this problem and if they figured a good way to prevent it.

Instead why don't you actually report the attempted theft and have your neighbor give the cops a statement with the plate #.

You showing up will do nothing but possibly get u killed.

That is not all which you can do, but this is probably the best route. Just be thankful that your lights are still intact. Some poor owner is without his/her lights, today.

I still don't get it. Don't all G35s have HIDs? What's the use in stealing them? Black market? That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

u take hid for the HID light to be retro in to another vechicle or you can you the projection and retro it in to your headlights that dont come with projections. imagine if you had no job and someone offer you to ****** a set of OEM HID for $200, and it only takes a sec, any kid cruising with a back pack and a crow bar can make loot doing this all night and day. just the fact of life in the hood.

Exclamation

They run rampant in the east coast....especially in NEW JERSEY. That's basically where the true HID "steal & run" came about.

HID equipment is valuable because they are still relatively new to the common driver. Its popularity due to its classy color look, brightness and wide field of vision for the night time makes it very popular.
People familiar with HID, but do not have them in their vehicle know how great they are on the road.
The first thing they look up is the internet to get some information on how to acquire them. Check out E-Bay and bingo lots of HID bulbs, ballasts and projectors. These headlamps whole runs $1,200-$3,000 at a dealership however; on E-bay it runs $200-$400 max.

To criminals stealing HID equipment for free and selling them back to the 'black market" is a profitable business.

I wonder if soon they will have like a VIN on HID stuff so you would know if it was HOT or just salvage? The bulbs themselves are also 100 a pop, so ransack a few cars and you can go buy yourself some more drugs..*sigh* what is the world coming to.

I don't understand how these headlights are being stolen so easily. Aren't they bolted in place to where you would have to do damage to get them out? It then would be obvious if they are stolen. It seems like car manufactures could do a better job bolting them down.

Bro the guys who tried to steal your HID's were amatuers, I live in the Bronx and I know alot of guys who steal car and stuff and they said it's easier to steal the whole car. The 05 G35 is one of the hardest Hid's to steal. I know for a fact because I changed the bulb from white to the Hella blues and to do that the entire front bumper has to come off. If you try to just yank out the light you'll just damage everything.
