I'm personally sick of this issue as well. I bought an 04. I also bought an 05. Still have both. Love em both.
You have a bunch of pre-05'ers getting all butthurt that some improvements were made. You also have a bunch of 05'ers with serious superiority complexes because of a newer model year.
Here's my take. I like the 04. It just so happens that our 04 has the nismo kit, and that's part of it. But when I bought it, I had no idea what the nismo kit was. That *does* mean that it doesn't have the stock front bumper with the horizontal scross-sectioned air dams, and that it's skirts are body matched. That's just a personal preference. But I almost bought a used 03 instead of the 04, and at the time, I couldn't see a difference. It's only after owning the car for a few months and being educated that I can tell in the first place.
A lot of people talk about the cheapness of the interior on the pre-05's. I actually like it. I prefer my wife's 04's interior to my own, but mainly because I should have gotten graphite. I think the round temp/vol controls on the 05 stick out, and are out of place, but are actually more functional. A quick twist will turn it all the way down, or up, quickly.
A few weeks ago I commented on the rpms while riding with the wife in her 04. She mentioned the difference between the speedo in our cars, and I had to actually think about it to remember if there WAS a difference(meaning ticks in 5mph increments). Other than having the guages swapped, the little things like having beveled edges just don't friggin matter.
I personally like my car more, that's why it's mine. It's due mainly to the fact that I really love the stock 18s on the 05, the tails, and I love the stick. But whenever we're dirving both cars to the same destination, I can't take my eyes off my wife's 04 either.
Back to the interior. All I hear is how crappy it is when compared to a TL or bimmer. While I do like the tl's interior, I don't like the bimmer's. I wanted a 3 series for YEARS. Every few weeks I would stop by some used lot just to look at them and drool. And I had never driven one. I was believing all the mag hype about the "ultimate driving machine." Then I actually got to sit in one, and I actually preferred my cheap-@$$ american Avalanche interior's ergonomics to the, "odd" placement and layout of the bimmer's. After that, I knew I wouldn't be happy driving a 3 day in and day out.
You know what the cool thing about having an 04 w/nismo, and an 05 6MT is? I can honestly say my 05 has better crap than all the butthurt 03/04 guys out there, and that my 04 it better than all the 05's out there. And it doesn't rattle. So there....<sticking tonque out>

03/04 vs 05 threads are like intake threads- they are always around and nobody agrees. To each their own. I have an 03 and am happy with mine. Was I a little jealous about some of the upgrades on the 05's, ya but you know what, there will always be bigger, badder, newer cars than the one you own.
So who's ready for the 05 vs 06 threads to make the rounds???

I guess I need my own forum because my 05 6mt is faster then everyone else. I know somebody that knows somebody that works at Infiniti and they hooked my up with the real 298hp motor. All you other suckers got fakes! Hahahaha! It's so fast I got to drive it in reverse.
Seriously, I'm sick of the which year is better debate. Everyone seems to be happy with what they got so lets just move on.
