Steering wheel leather wearing out?

I have an 04 g35x and on the top of the steering wheel it is wearing out and I don't hold the wheel there all the time. Anyone else have this problem and if you do will infiniti fix it?

It is funny that you mentioned this. I never hold the steering wheel from the top an mine is wearing out also. I am glad it just wasn't me. I am wondering if it is the sun that is taking its toll on it??? Dunno

Well, on my '04 at almost 19k, the leather on the wheel was fine, and I did use the top area of the wheel a lot, are you sure it's wear and not dirt of some kind? If you don't use the top of the wheel, how could it be wear? I bet Infiniti would do something about it, I'd sure check it out.

Mine's the same way. '03 with 45k - it's in the area right around 9/3 where the pillars meet. Not much you can do aside from condition and uv protect it.

I wonder if it just gets dried out.
Maybe if you use that area, the oil from your hands helps??

I bet is sun damage unless you drive with the one hand palm method.

i had the same problem and Dreyer and Reinbold Infinti on the North side of Indy replaced the steering wheel for me. The new one seems to have more padding on the whole surface, but maybe the old one was just compressed from use.

I don't know, sometimes I think the oil from your hands can be a detriment to the leather. I haven't even seen any wear in any of the loaners I've had, and a couple of those were well abused!

Andyl, do you have a pic of the wheel by any chance?
