Here's why no DUAL Exhaust for the Sedan
There have been several questions about why no dual exhaust
for the sedan.
FWIW....
The pic shows why....
On the right side; where a second muffler would go;
Infiniti chose to locate the fuel vapour recovery canister.
Also the spare tire wheel well is several inches off center to the right.
So the canister space on the right is smaller than the muffler space on the left
for the sedan.

Yea, but it's just stupid that the 3.5 Altima, Maxima, Z, and G coupe all have dual exhausts except for the sedan. Even my bro's Acura TSX has dual exhausts.

The reason for the pic was that I was investigating the posibility of relocating the evap components.
It's a no go
Nowhere else to move them to.

That was pre production, probably b4 emmission issues were sorted out
I think once they got to production they had to find a place for the evap canister, & the dual got tossed.
The other strange thing that doesn't make sense, is why the spare tire wheel well is shifted off center.

What's the big deal about two pipes at the rear? Before American tastes for "duals", most European cars had one exhaust, usually with a large pipe. The duals create more weight. Our cars make 280HP or more with one sided exhaust. The photo above shows you can have real "duals" while keeping the factory style, if performance is your true aim. Most of the cars with separate pipes are front drivers. More room without the axle. I don't get it.

i wouldn't say faster... but you kept it pretty factual. what most people don't realize is that the 350z nor the g35 coupe have dual exhausts. they have dual muffler tips. that's about all. i'd prefer our setup for the same reasons nissan did. do we need more airflow? i'd say not. not for an n/a setup. then why the two pipes? what's really the concern? looks? this used to bother me too. but performance is way too good to care anymore.
