6MT Newbie Question
6MT Newbie Question
Okay, I know a lot of you are going to think I'm a complete idiot, but I wanted to ask anyway. About a month ago, I purchased a 6MT sedan. It was my first manual so it took a little time to learn. The shifting is fine now for everyday driving. But I suck when it comes to shifting fast like when that TL edges forward at a red light. My problem is from 1st to 2nd, I always seem to lunge forward. Or the engine revs. I find that depressing the clutch just to the disengage point rather than depressing it all the way down helps significantly. Is that bad for the clutch? Can I do that for normal driving too? Thanks.
For some reason, Infiniti sets up the clutch pedal with tons of free play so that's normal. I had the same problem with I got my 6mt not too long ago and it's a common complaint. The good news is that the clutch pedal is adjustable. I suggest starting here to learn how:

It's pretty easy to do but getting the fork off the clutch pedal can be a challenge. I found that if you back off the top sensor it will give you some extra room when you pull up on the clutch pedal. I adjusted my pedal two different times until I got it perfect. It engages quicker from the floor and is smoother.
