05 G35X - Milage getting better?

I have had my G35X for three weeks. Lucky me, I buy a 280 HP sport sedan and a week later premium is $3.75 a gallon! Needless to say I got real interested in milage...

Using the fill, reset trip computer, drive, fill, and calculate milage based on actual miles driven/amount of fuel used method, here's what I have:

1st fill - 12.6 MPG
2nd fill - 15.2 MPG
last fill - 18.4 MPG

My driving habits for the past three weeks have been the same - about 60/40 split for city/highway, under 4k RPM (break-in) and AC off. All fills were 10-12 gallons, 93 octane.

Anyone else find this interesting? Any possible explanation?

Mine varies a bit, but not as much as yours. Could be a result of the car being new and loosening up. I would guess you're getting close to 1000 miles by now.

Humidity and temperature affects my mileage as well - don't know how it is where you are. I assume it's pretty cool there - you say A/C off.

Keep watching it and see what it does.

I'd be pretty happy with that 18+ MPG with that city/highway mix. That's pretty darn good for an X.

:-)

I have only had my G35x for a month. I seem be getting around 18/19mpg on average in the city. My highway mileage is no better (probabally because then I finally get to open her up).

It's no surprise your first fill up has the lowest mpg. For me, the first fillup was under 15. The reason being?

Well it's your new car. You tend to let car run and open the hood to check things. Drive to friends place to show them and open the hood while it's running, etc. Sitting inside the car and just pressing on the pedal to the metal to listen to the exhaust sound.

For me, after 6,000 miles my avg is around 17 miles per gallon. The lowest being under 15. The highest is 21+ (that was all highway with ac on). I am certainly not too please with the mpg's when I read the bmw boards and see 325i and 330i getting as high as 30mpg highway. We have a 3.5 liter v6 but it uses almost as much gas as a full size SUV. Go figure.

Last but not least, the heavier X plus the lack of 6th gear is another minus on the mpg.

I have my x just over a month, I got an average of 21mpg with 70 highway and 30 city.

I still get 18 plus after the breakin period.

I am on my 3rd week of my x. I am getting about 15-16mpg and I mainly drive on highways... and I feel ur pain too. The day after I picked up the x is the day gas prices started shooting up. Thats why i was filling the tank up everyday so I'll save a little money because prices goes up daily.

btw i used to spend about $20 a week in my acura. now I have been spending about $40 a week driving the same distance.

I bought my 05 g35x in january of 05 first tank was about 18. Since then I have gotten better mileage and as it fully broke in and now has 13,000 on it. I regularly average 23 mpg and more if I do all highway. I got 5 miles to get on the highway, 8 miles at 75 and sometimes 80 and then 2 miles off to get to work. So maybe 60% highway and I get 23.

The warmer weather helps and I run 93 in it and I also have synthetic oil which can have an impact. I expect the mileage will drop to 20-21 in the winter. Snow mode is a mileage killer as well.
