I had my brakes replaced by the dealer at 26K on my 03.5 sedan. Like others have mentioned, the new brakes on the 05's have been redesigned. I don't have the bad brake dust issue either. It felt really weird going from the 03.5 to the 05 in terms of when the brakes grab. They are not as quick to grab in the 05. The 03.5 was almost instantanious grab as soon as you touched the brakes. The 05 are smoother, almost too smooth and slow in my opinion, but they still stop just as fast when slammed to the floor.

Only pads changed on '05 X

I confirmed with the parts dept many months ago that the 2005 G35X did not get the upgraded brakes, only the pads were changed. I'm guessing Infiniti thinks the new pads will make the brakes last significantly longer.

Maybe if enough 2005 G35X start popping up with premature brake wear then Infiniti will extend the pre-2005 brake warranty to us?

CAN ANYBODY ELSE CONFIRM THIS? Why is it not in the warranty book and why would dealers give different answers?? They get paid no matter what.

I'm going to the dealer tomorrow, I'll let you know what they tell me.

i also have an 05x with about 8500 miles and the brakes seem fine. no squeaking or noise but the fronts def dust alot. when i have to replace these im def puttin some ceramics on. i just wonder if this pad is better than the 04 in terms of life. ive never had a car go atleast 25k on the fronts. and that was driving like an idiot. I think its funny how we get different answers from different dealers.

Just a guess about the 05 G35X pad life

I'm guessing that the 05 G35X revised brake pad will last a longer than the problematic (but warranty covered) 04 brakes. However, I'm highly skeptical that the 05 brake pad is going to extend the brake life by anything more than 25%. It's the same car, a bit more power, same rotor size, same caliper, just different pad material.

Hoping I'm wrong, but I have a feeling we will find the lousy 10,000 mile brake life of the 04 G35X extended to maybe 12,000 miles on the 2005. Big deal.
At this point, I think I would rather have the 3 year free brake service.

Like I said before, we should all bug our dealers about it once we find the brakes wearing out on our 2005 G35X and hopefully Infiniti will realize they need to extend the service to us.

Well, according to Infiniti's website, on the G35 specs, now the '06 X has the same larger brakes, I found it odd that they didn't change for '05 as well.

I will ask the dealer in about an hour if I remember when I pick up my G. My 03 is getting new front pads and rotors covered under the 3 year 36K mile warrenty. I have 32K on the G now.

Brake pads are cheap. So if your brake pads wear out before 24k just change them. No biggie

My 05'X front wheels have major brake dusting too ... I have about 13K miles now.
I made an appointment to get them checked out next week.

I also have an 05'X. Mine has 12.5K miles. The front do get brake dust but I clean them at least once a week. That keeps it under control. When the pads need replacement I will look for other compositions. On my last vehicle I replaced the factory pads with ceramic ones that had almost no brake dust. I hope they are available for the G.
