Hit and Run

Somebody ran into my car while it was parked and took off. $550 in damages. I have a question - I have State Fram insurance and I'm let to believe that falls under collision because two cars made contact. My deductible is $500 so it's not worth claiming. However, my sister said she got her bumper fixed for free when someone hit her and ran off. I don't want to pay for it if I don't have to. Help?

I agree . . . Ask your insurance company. If the response is not favorable, proceed from there. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure you don't have to pay a deductable to speak with your insurance agent.

Some people are just a$$holes...I have state farm as well, but I don't know whether this a collision or not, I would ask the agent.

No deductible. If they catch the person their insurance will have to pay *your* deductible, but even if they don't catch him your deductible will be covered for you.

I actually did ask my agent earlier yesterday. He said no, but it was a little weird to hear the story coming from my sister. I think I'm just going to call the company directly. Thanks, all.

In Cali your insurance company will attempt to get your deduct back from the other party but may not be sucessfull. If they don't get it, you get to go to court to get it.Remember that you are out the deduct amount not your carrier.

This is simple... If you weren't in your car when this happened it's a Hit and Run. With a hit-and-run you don't have to pay a deductible, at least my sister didn't when someone bumped smashed her side in while her car was parked in the parking lot. She has state farm also. Her damage was about $1000.

However, for $550 it may not be worth reporting to insurance. Although no-one will admit it the insurance company will end up regaining that $550 ten fold. Whether they hit you with a premium increase or no longer give you "accident-free" driver discounts, they will for sure. That's what they do for a living and they are DAMN good at it.

Good Luck!

Your family seems to be cursed with hit-n-runs in parking lots.

Park Safe

Seems like it would be a bad idea to make an official claim for a $500 repair; your premium will be affected by way more than that over the next 4 years if you have a claim to your name. I'd just get it fixed and grit your teeth, maybe go get drunk as a consolation or something.

Sorry to hear about it man. Sucks.

It was suppose to mean that you guys have bad luck (as in I thought you got hit), but you know what, I am glad your sister got hit in a parking lot, she deserves it. And you, are a BITCH, so STFU.

I work for State Farm and all they will do is cover everything over the deductible unless you find out the drivers info and they'll go after him and you'll eventually get the deductible back
