Just a warning for those insured by Allstate - don't call them for anything unless you are going to make a claim. Otherwise, they may create a claim even though there is no money involved and jack up your rates. This happened to me a while back. My wife got hit by someone else. She called Allstate to ask a few questions about the accident and to make sure the other person did not try to say it was my wife's fault. I later discovered that my insurance was hundreds more. I called my agent and he apologized saying it was Allstate's policy to create claim numbers on any phone calls. This shows up in the system so it's just like you made a claim even though you didn't. Needless to say, I dropped those sob's like a stinky brick.

Yeah, Allstate's a bunch of f*cking scumbags. They charge hundreds more every 6 months to begin with, run body shops which deal in substandard parts and jack your rates at the drop of a hat. My GF drives a Jetta 4cyl and the difference between Allstate and State Farm was $600/yr! I'll go with Geico or anyone else before Allstate.

If you do turn the claim in you should have police report to back up the Hit and Run claim. It will be considered a "not at fault" and should not affect your rates. If it does you should try getting a Farmers quote.

Your best chance to fight paying the deductable is to:
a) have picture proof -- taken just after accident (with camera phones this is becoming easier)
b) file a police report. Some jurisdictions require that the damage be over $1000 before they get involved.

It's always a PITA when this happens and feels worse when it wasn't your fault.
Good luck with everything.
