Why would Acura use the new standards then, seems like it would be to their befit to use the old, 270 hp sounds better than 258 hp.Originally Posted by stl_ls1gto
also, you guys are forgetting that it is OPTIONAL for the manufactures to rate their current engines under the new SAE test. All new engines will be rated under that test, but as long as they dont change anything on the engine, then they can claim what they have been claiming for the engine HP and TQ.

From http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm:
J1349 was updated last year to eliminate some ambiguities that allowed engine makers to cite power and torque ratings higher than the engine's actual capabilities.
Is "AUG2004" after the time J1349 was "updated last year"?From http://www.sae.org/certifiedpower/details.htm:

If so... then the 280hp is accurate.

hmmm...I think you are right. The FX35 seems to have mantained the 280HP rating under the new SAE standard. The old standard is dated JUN1995Originally Posted by Iso Octane
