99-04 Mustang GT vs G35, driver's race with the nod going to the GT.

Put me in a 99+ GT and I'll light up any stock or lightly modded NA G35.
Ya well he beat him easily while shifting at 6000rpm.

Congratulations, Jady but don’t think the results will be the same against every ‘99+ GT, even a stock one.

Now for the off-topic stuff.

I still own my second Mustang but it was an easy jump to the G35. The decent power, RWD, IRS, 6MT, very good legroom, non-generic body styling and a nice price made it a no brainer for me.

I agree to some extent. When getting our Saleen, I was expecting that there would be some quality issues, both Saleen and Ford related. It has been relatively trouble free over the almost six years owning it, though. Our G on the other hand, has already had a couple thousand dollars worth of warrantee work done on it, and it needs more work done, still. That has been a big surprise.

O.k., back to the topic.

I love how people automatically assume the Mustang is a POS. I guess they never knew that the 99-04 Mustang has one of the highest long term reliability records on the road. Ergonomically, the sub 04 Stangs were horrible, but reliability wise they aren't bad at all. Hell, I plan to buy an 89-93 5.0 notchback just because the cars are such a blast to drive and hella fast with little work.

Sorry to threadjack, but I've always assumed the mustang was a POS. The day after the last day of school my ninth grade year, a friend had his older brother drive to come pick me up so we could hang out. His older brother had just graduated the day before, and for a grad present his parents got him a 92 automatic; I think it was a v6, can't remember. Anyway, we pulled into his driveway. He shut off the car, we all got out, and as we were walking to his front door we heard a loud crack. We all turned ours heads in unison just in time to see the rear bumper drop off the car to fall onto the concrete driveway. He hadn't had the car for a whole day yet. Damndest thing I ever saw.

Fair or not, from that point forward, I've always thought the mustang was a POS.

In '92 they only had a 2.3 liter I-4 or the 302 V8.

....and that is the 1st time I've ever heard of a quality control issue like that!!! Granted, I have never been a fan of the Fox-chassis mustang styling (79-93), but I wouldn't base the quality and reliability of those mustangs based on that unusual case.

I find it amusing that in some threads it's cool to post a clear street race, while others you will get slamed to the wall, the burnt to hell from all the flames. What gives? Personally I like to read these stories as long as the drivers are not reckless, just wondering why the double standard.

I can't even say for sure it was a 92, much less if it was a v6
And you're right. It's not fair to base one's opinion on such an incedent, and I understand that now, but at the time it really stuck with me.

Before the G, I had an 04 Cobra (v8 4.6L, four cams, 32 valves, supercharged) putting about 460 RWHP and torque. My buddies put 517 RWHP with a ported stock blower. The 03-04 Cobras are pure animals. 05 + GT's run mid 13's out of the showromm and mid- high 12's NA. Be carefull who you race with. A 99-04 Stock GT is a good race with a G 35 6 MT.

I agree 100%. Yet another winning thread on the G35driver.com Sedan section!

What do you mean mid-high 12's NA?

Reflashed ECU, catback, gears, intake, and slicks.....mid 12s in an NA 05 Mustang GT. I believe it was Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords that did a 12.5 in an 05 GT outfitted like this. Ford's new 3 valve 4.6 SOHC motor is the new LS1. It takes to mods incredibly well.

What I meant about NA was naturally aspired, no forced induction or nitrous. You are correct, they had an 05 Gt 5 speed with 4.30 gears, exhaust, mid pipe, CAI, a tune, and slicks, and it ran a 12.5 at 108

I always made fun of my friends GT Stang until I got my Nissan Altima. Since then I held his Mustang in high reguard. He abuses his car everyday, drives it to the ground actually. He has like 80,000 miles and the car is in damn good condition. It still pulls like it did when it was new. But you are 100% about the ergonomics, what an uncomfortable car, my knee turned off the turn signal when making a left turn from a stop light (depressing clutch).

Good question. I don't believe stories of street racing should be tolerated on this forum. Then again I don't have any clout, sooooo...
