Representing 4-Door "G's" - I beat a Mustang!

Not that mustang GT's are all impressive these days, but I thought I would share this. On a day to day basis, I drive my "G" like Grandma Moses. I always shift her at around 3k RPM. For the first time yesterday, I decided to punch it and see what she really has. A Mustang GT (stick - probably a 2002 or 2003 model V8) pulled up along side of me, reving engine, etc. Light turned, I nailed it. Brought it up to around 6k in first/second/third gear and left it about 2 car length's behind. When the mustang hit 2nd gear the tires squeeled - but not the "G" - just solid performance! The driver was apparently distraught as he quickly turned off on a side street after I had beat his socks off. I dont think he quite expected a sedan to do what the G did!! Just thought I would share this. Made me feel like a teenager again. lol

Okay, now back to driving like Grandma..

Lol, yup I've had a similar encounter with a new 05 mustang GT, i only gave it 1/2 throtle off the line, hes pushing as hard as he can and I still was keeping up. I wasn't go to race right across the street from the police station lol, but I was quite impressed with how the G can hold its own not even trying hard.

If your tires don't chirp when you shift into 2nd in the G, then you ain't goin' fast enough.

WOW Great story!

You beat Mustang GT that was actually racing you while you were shifting at 6000 rpm. The thread content gets better and better everyday!

Good work man - it feels great doesn't it? If you catch the racing bug, remember not to race in the rain and not to put yourself or anyone else in harms way... Otherwise it just looks bad for everyone else that likes to do some mild street racing and propagates the stereotypes that you hear about "street racers" on the news.

As for Gting's sarcastic post, don't just repeat what the poster said (even though you earn a gold star for being a *superstar* reader and repeater), roll your eyes and then complain about the content in the forum, because YOU are the problem.

The 2003 Mustang GT, is rated at 260hp and 302ft lbs torque. Weight comes in at 3241 lbs. Not sure if that qualifies it as a dog or not. I didn't find any hard stats yet but I would think those specifications would make that car a mid-14 sec at least.

Yep, they're far from a dog. At my track, in stock form, the 99-04s run 14.0-14.6 depending on driver, conditions, and tranny. A few friends have 01-02 GTs 5MT and they're doing 13.6-13.8@101mph+ with just DRs, X-pipe, and some simple free mods. I don't 6MT G35 coming close to that.

99-04 Mustang GT vs G35, driver's race with the nod going to the GT.

Put me in a 99+ GT and I'll light up any stock or lightly modded NA G35.

But it is interesting a lot of people have switched from mustangs to G35 (probably for the sedan) since it is a sport "muscle" car almost and yet has that family car usage (theres that other thread).

hey gting / everyone else, opinions are like a$$Holes everyone has one. get over it.

My friend has a 96 Cobra Mystic, and man that thing is in the shop all the time, and before that a 91 GT, and that was in the shop even more. FORD = Fix or Repair Daily for sure seeing how the mustangs can't even not be in the shop. I think that alone scares me from ever goin american again until the quality control is better.

Corvette is a great car other than the interior, they really need to clean it up IMO and then it can really attack the foreign exotic market. I'd like to test drive the new Z06 when it comes out :-)

a kill is nevertheless a kill.........mustand driver revved, therefore saying, "hey, wanna play?' G35 driver leaves/walks him.....mustand chirped tires in second gear, he tried.......then pulls into sidestreet to avoid look of just-got-walked-by-a-four-SEDAN.
Jady, sounds about right?

Killed a mustang GT 2002-2004 stick. The guy asked if my sedan had a V8 under the hood. LOL

the mustangs that were dogs were the 94-98 GTs. I had a 94 gt Conv Automatic. It ran 15.7 @ 87 mph stock!!!

It sure did like mods though. gears, headers, offroad pipe, exhaust, pulley, and K&N........14.7 @ 95

Procharger.......13.2 @ 108 with a 1.9 60' time on stock rubber
