Quote: a kill is nevertheless a kill.........mustand driver revved, therefore saying, "hey, wanna play?' G35 driver leaves/walks him.....mustand chirped tires in second gear, he tried.......then pulls into sidestreet to avoid look of just-got-walked-by-a-four-SEDAN.
Jady, sounds about right?

KLG - you got it!! Other posters?? No harm done about the sarcastic commments - lol. Its all in fun.

Racing bug? Nahhh - if I do get the bug (unlikely) I will drive our other car (see below).. It is better suited, but I am not a "fast and furious" driver nor a street-racer. I just punched the G off the start and left it behind...

Just re-read the story. And it doesn't sound right. Either the stang driver didn't want to race or he F'd up. There's no way an '04 G35 shifting at 6000rpm is going to beat a Stang GT by 2 lengths unless the Stang driver is Forrest Gump.

A dead even race with competent drivers seems more likely. Or the Mustang by a nose.

No I am lying about the whole thing.. lol

I did mention that the driver squeeled into second gear whereas the G didnt do that. I would imagine some drive fault was at stake..

I don't think you're lying, man. I just don't think any part of this counts as a race or a kill. But thanks for sharing I guess.

My coupe with my mods vs any 99-04 mustang gt stock... Im 3 cars by third shifting at 7200.
vs same car modded: depends on the mods, but I've beaten a few I/H/E GT's due to driver

I dont see how a sedan could pull like that... unless he was also not shifting as hard as he could

The guy must have missed a shift or been in a Non GT. The new GT makes over 100 inthe 1/4 and at mid 13's. I could only run neck in neck with a 04 AT before modding and at higher speeds he killed me. A 300hp v-8 in a lighter car is not losing to a G.

Neither do I. I raced my buddy with my 05 and he has an 00 GT. I had an extra passenger and he has hiflow cats and exhaust. I was shifting at over 7000RPM and only managed to have a hood length at the end of the 4th gear.

I've got one of each, and the G35 won't touch the Mustang.

And neither of them can hold a candle to my farm truck!

I own one right now. See my sig. I did that with DR's, 4.10 gears, pullies, Bassani X pipe, & Borla Cat-back. I ran 13.89 @ 101 mph with just a cat-back and everything else stock.

I'm selling my Mustang GT this spring and replacing it with a sports sedan. The G35's handling, interior, and refinement will be welcomed if I go that route. I am also looking at the 330i and IS 350. However, I don't expect any of these cars to pull as hard as my mustang.

As for reliability, my mustang has been the most solid car I have ever owned. I beat on it weekly and have had zero problems. The engine is bulletproof unless you run boost and get greedy.

This original thread it BS.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I've completely destroyed *several* '99-'04 Mustang GTs from about 60 mph to 140 mph (15+ car lengths) and even walk away from LT1 F-bodies from the same speeds

Mustangs are bricks.... all the torque in the world can't overcome bad aerodynamics.

This afternoon I gave a new LS6 GTO that had headers, exhaust and who knows what else, a good run from that same 60 mph (in 3rd gear @ around 5000 rpm) punch (he beat me by about a car and half). I knew I wouldn't beat him and figured he would stomp me pretty bad, but he never walked away and I shut it down at about 120. The guy was really impressed that I could even hang with him. He claimed he's getting around 450hp to the crank. Somehow I doubt that very seriously as the only place he really walked on me was the initial "go". Maybe he couldn't drive or whatever, but how hard is it to put it in gear and punch it and then shift once?

I think the REAL world difference here is the combination of the rev-up engine ('05 6MT) and the gears. The gears alone made more of a difference than the high flow cats, plenum and headers put together. When shifting at 7100 rpm, the revs fall right back into the sweet spot with every shift. Did I mention I dropped over half a second in the 1/4 mile with the gear set? BTW, I also put the stock filter box back in with a K&N and yes it runs better. The POP charger was just making noise... seems the new motors just don't like aftermarket intakes...

Why do you say that?

Believe it or not, the sedans are lighter than the coupes...

From what I have seen, the times for both the coupe and sedan are almost identical.

I'd have to see the slip because that sounds like pure BS to me. 105mph traps in a G with basic bolt-ons? Not happening.

What track?

What is your:

60'
330'
1/8 ET
1/8 MPH
1000'
1/4 mile
1/4 ET

Launch rpm?

Tires?

Just curious, but how many runs have you made down the strip in your sedan? Are you having any tranny issues? Clutch issues? Are you power/speed shifting? Are you feathering the clutch during launch? Are you griding gears in day-to-day driving? How many miles on the car so far?

Just curious. I've made over 50 runs on my car in the last 2.5 months. I'm starting to get worried about the excessive wear/tear I'm putting on the car, especially the tranny, so I'm planning on taking a break from the track for quite a while...
