Tint back window completely or cut out brake light

I will getting my 2005 G35 tinted Monday with LLumar 15% charcoal (on all windows) and would like know if I should tint the entire back window or get the tint cut around the brake light. I have a Diamond Graphite/Graphite. I did a search and it seems there is a problem currently. Does anyone have a glare strip installed or were you just happy with the OEM factory one? Thanks in advance for some opinions. If anyone has other opinions they can add that would be great. Jason

if you dont have the oem spoiler with brake light then i guess this would be a good option. imo, i would do the whole window regardless if it had a spoiler or not.

No worries I fully understand about the light showing through. The Infinity Dealer through it in as part of my purchase package and I was very demanding that I get this car tinted the way I want it. I wanted 15% all around (illegal and dealer was having a problem with it but is now resolved) and full back window tinted. The dealer had a problem with that stating both can cause legal issues for them is something happened?? The finally spoke with the company doing the tinting and they made it sound like a big deal about the brake light being covered. I figured he they were making a big deal about it becasue it is an extra step and involves removing the brake light while tinting. I just wanted some opinions

No one here will do that, it's the legal stuff, not the extra work involved is what I was told!

FWIW, my shop cut around the brake light. You can't tell he did it, and it looks great. And yes, I believe that dark tinting any lights on a vehicle, or the windshield, compromises safety. But that's me.

I also think that 15% is probably too dark to be safe at night.

If you think 15% is dark...try getting 5% all around and tinting the front windshield 49%...Now THAT is dark.

No thanks. I've had 20% on many cars (as well as my G right now) and I love the look. But darker than that can't be good on a rainy night. And I would NEVER tint the windshield for obvious reasons.

The guy that did my tint does all the cars for the dealer I bought from (including showroom)... he tinted the whole window. Tint shop and dealer in this case does not have a problem with it.

I don’t see why your dealer or tint guy/shop would be any different. Maybe you should be dealing with someone else?…

PS - they don't care what grade tint, they aren't going to be ticketed for it.

I was told by the dealership's general manger that someone puchased a car and wanted the car tinted. Infiniti dealership had it done and it was tinted to the customers liking. The person got ticketed for the illegal tint and brought the ticket to the dealership for them to pay. The dealership paid the ticket and the general manager has now refused to tint any vehicles illegally. I completely understand about legalities and such and the general manager has worked it out where I can get the tint that I want and then their hands are out of it. Since they are paying for it I did not want to lose out on a free tint.

I have always had 5% on all my vehicle and currently have it on my 2005 Superduty F250 King Ranch 6.0. but just wanted some opinions on if I should go with a dark % on my Diamond Graphite G35.

Thanks for the input. I do have the aero spoiler with the brake light.

That is extremely bizarre. There is no law stating it is illegal to put tint on a car, you just can't drive with certain tint. What if a car is pure show? Or not even street legal and not intended for street and never driven on a street? Not splitting hairs here, but from a legal standpoint I can’t see how an installer is bound to liability. On one hand I would understand the dealer paying the ticket purely from a customer service standpoint to keep the client happy, but I find it hard to believe it was do to legal liability.

The sad fact is the schmuck that made them pay the minuscule fine phucked it up for other customers. From what you have said this dealership if outawhack... if it were me I'd pay and have it done right and the way I wanted it somewhere else.

Good luck.

BTW, in this post you said "but just wanted some opinions on if I should go with a dark % on my Diamond Graphite G35." and "I do have the aero spoiler with the brake light" - But your original post that started this thread was asking about tinting over the center brake light or not.

What exactly are you after?

My last post was answering a question from another poster and since other posters added their opinion on the % I was just asking for a last alternative question.

Are you doing 15% all around? I'm originally from FL and 15% on the rear windows / back is legal AFAIK last time I checked. Front windows is 28% so I don't see the hassle about the back. Plus I am brining my 5% all around Volvo back to FL since in GA they care too much (giving it back to my brother) about the tint level. I think they are just being annoying, just tell them to give you what u want!

Dude - tint the whole window. Reason being, if you want to add a OEM/Lighted spoiler later down the road, you can disconnect the existing light and nobody will see it!!!
