What about the gas cap?
Any ideas on how to secure the gas cap so it won't cause long term paint/body damage? This is probably not an issue if you live in states that allow you to pump your own gas. You obviously will do it gently and carefully.
I live in Jeersy and gas attendents have to do it. Some leaves the cap resting on the fender.
Some will actually place it on the gas door holder but more often than not, the cap will fall off and hit the fender when the nozzle is being removed.
Any nifty tricks to mitigate the problem?

you can cut the hanger off so the cap won't hang on the side of the car, and if it falls off the holder, it'll fall to the floor. but this might increase the chance of losing it.
or just watch the attendant while he/she pump your gas.

Wow, I haven't seen "full service" gas stations in decades. Will they let you take off your own cap? If so that's what I'd do - or just tell the guy to be careful and do it as it's designed.
I'd be more concerned about some schmuck letting residual gas drip on the body of the car. Glad I can pump my own.

Yes., I often open it myself and then click it closed myself when the attendant does the fill-up here in New Jersey. Someone mentioned that Oregon is the only other state that does not allow the driver to do the filling.
